Okay I need help re: the above

Normally when i click into "my computer" , I had the usual drives available. But yesterday when I tried to upload from my camera I inserted the chip and the light didnt come on. I then clicked into my computer and the I drive was nowhere to be seen.

I got a new modem recently so Im thinking this might have had something to do with the change. I never thought the modem and the drives were related but maybe I was wrong??

    Anyone ?

I inserted the chip and the light didnt come on.

Can you elaborate on that? I can only assume you have an inbuilt card reader attached (or part of) the front of your pc which you insert the memory card of your camera into?
If so try restart your pc and push it in firmly in one go.

Modem has nothing to do with it. nor does the internet.

Yes on the front of the computer there are 4 slots , just above where the cd player is. Normally when I push it in a green light turns on and automatically a window pops up on my desktop giving me several options including open as a folder etc.
Since the light didnt come on or the window open automatically I then opened my computer to open the I drive manually, but it wasn't there. Ok I will try what you said when I get back to my PC.
    Thanks

Did you install an internal modem? If so it's possible you could have dislodged a cable connecting the card reader to the motherboard.

bit of a shot in the dark there. He probably would have mentioned the possability of pulling out a cable though to be fair or even opening up his pc.

I have had this problem with card readers and USB external drives several times in the past. It sounds like you just need to change the drive letter for the card( it picks it up as an external drive, insert the card into the card reader, then go into disk management( right click my computer, click manage, then disk management) then if the card shows up here but with no assigned drive letter, just change the drive letter to a free drive letter. Then go back into explorer and your drive should refresh and appear,

If it's a USB modem it can cause this to happen
