I have an interview next week for the position of fund accountant. I don't really know much about it to be honest. If anyone could fill me in on what it involves and give some interview tips I'd appreciate it. Thanks

    Hey

I worked as a fund accountant for a year. It will depend on the type of fund you'll be working on it will vary. I worked on a mutual fund which had a daily NAV (net asset value).

If you go to investopedia (I cant spell!) and look up the following:
    NAV
    Custodian
    Investment Manager
    NAV based fees
    Bloomberg
    Master Feeder structure
    Fund prospectus
    Transfer Agency
    Basis points
    Subscription (subs)
    Redemptions (reds)

A fund is a collection of securities shares, bonds etc. You basically have to input purchases and sales on the funds. Get invoices and input the expenses such as management fees, legal fees etc.

You will have to calculate changes in prices. This is usually done for you, but if something is over a threshold say of 5% you have to get backup from bloomberg.

You'll also be doing cash and stock recs which will compare fund accounting holding with the custodian.

Finally you'll be booking subs and reds on the fund.

    Hope it helps
