i have aria zz-1, two humbuckers, wondering if i could maybe have a push pull tone knob so i could then have single coil sounds as well as humbuckers, i wanted to replace the pots with more powerful ones anyway. couple of question

    1. Would it fit?
    2. Is it worth the hassel?
    3. What is a good make of pot?

Do the pickups have 3 conductor wires?

I'm not sure... I think most Aria's had them but not very familiar with the ZZ wiring.

it doesn't have conductors, it's basically like strat style wiring

Ok... well let me ask it better.

How many wires are coming off each pickup?
As far as pots go Alpha are good and readily available.

You need at least 3 for coil tapping. That would be 2 "hot" and one ground.

is their any way of attaching another wire?

It is possible, but it's not something I would personally attempt unless I was prepared to write off the first few pickups I tried it on. :pac:

If the pickups don't have 4 wires to begin with, then what you want to do is not worth the hassle, imo.

In regard to potentiometers, CTS are also very common for guitars. Usually, guitar pots have knurled shafts, so check what kind of shaft your's have before buying replacements anyway. Otherwise, you'll need new knobs as well.

has three wires just checked one going to tone and two to switch, so yous think just change the pots with normal ones, was thinking audio taper 500k ones, audio taper for volume swells and 500k for more clarity, so yous think cts are the best or would another brand be better?

If it has humbuckers then it should have 500k pots in it already. CTS will be better than whatever came stock, unless it came with CTS as stock. :pac:

I'm not sure what you're saying about the number of wires. If the humbuckers have a coil split allowing you to use a single coil, then there will be 4 wires coming out of each pickup. 2 of the wires from each pickup will be wired together and tied off. If it doesn't have a coil split, as stock humbuckers often don't, then those two wires are wired together internally.

The one going to tone is probably the ground for the bridge. Does it go directly onto the outside of the pot or to one of the three terminals?

directly onto pot, i'd doubt it's cts, they are tiny, look roughly the same size as the ones on my sx

Sounds like you can't coil tap those. The wire going direct onto the pot is a ground wire.

okay well i'll still change the pots for audio taper ones, do u think audio taper is neccessary for a tone pot, since i already have a wah pedal

Why do you want audio taper? the sweep is going to be very narrow on it.

because i can't really volume swells on linear pots, i quite a sudden jump in volume

I think you've confused them. Audio (or log) pots have a sudden jump. Linear pots have a steady increase.

This graph will show it better I think.

i actually seen a video that had the same graph etc that said opposite

The graph is confusing. Volume decreases exponentially and therefore the LOG taper accounts for this. That is why it is called audio taper.

this is the video i seen the comparison, does he have them correct?
cause i prefer the smooth volume from the second one and he says it's audio taper/log

To me that CTS audiotaper is the best swell. With humbuckers I'd use 500k and with single coils I'd use 250k. Some poeple like using 1Meg pots though.
