So after breaking out in mouth ulcers and swollen gums, headaches, fever, my mother of all people had to suggest that possibly I was suffering from oral herpes. The doctor said it was possible stomatitis but gave me a syrup that is also used for treatment of herpes type 1 (oral).

Im wondering how can I go and get checked out to make sure that it is herpes and not just a throat infection along with some ulcers from stress or whatever?

    Blood tests?
    Thanks

Go back to the doctor who prescribed the syrup and arrange a test for oral herpes - this will put your mind at ease.

    As Emme.

also if it is oral herpes, otherwise known as cold sores, calm down. Yes its not nice to have, but it is incredibly common. you can't get rid of it, but it can be managed quite well for most people

+1 on this, most people hear herpes and think diseased sex maniac, but a lot of people have the cold sore virus

You should talk to your GP.

Also go to your dentist. I was diagnosed as having oral herpes and perscribed very expensive medicine which didn't work. Went to my dentist and it turns out I had gum disease. Got a course of very inexpensive medicine and it cleared in about 2 days.

If your mouth is sore rinse with corsodyl mouthwash, it's the only thing that will substitute using toothbrush and toothpaste.

Ya Ive been laying into the Corsodyl everyday. Ulcers arent so sore now, its mostly the swollen gums :( But just the feel of the ulcers in my mouth and seeing them on my tongue and gums = :(

    Thanks for advice people

Oral herpes barely ever presents as ulcers and swollen gums, your mum is talking rubbish. It's not impossible but it's very unlikely.

Go to your GP immediately. It could be Gingivitus (see link below) and as far as I know this is quite serious.

    Get well soon!
