PICTURE: A400M performs first taxi trial
    By Craig Hoyle

Airbus Military's A400M transport has undergone its first low-speed taxi trial, with the milestone having taken place near Seville, Spain on 23 November. "The Airbus Military A400M airlifter has moved under its own power for the first time", the company says.

In a series of tests spanning 90min, aircraft MSN001 was moved at speeds of up to 20kt (37km/h), with its pilots having "tested the normal, alternate and emergency braking systems, the anti-skid system, the nose wheel steering and reverse power," Airbus says. The transport also made 180° turns and was taxied in reverse, it adds.

"We were impressed with the ease with which we could taxi the aircraft in terms of the precision and ease of use of the nose wheel steering, and the effectiveness of the braking systems," says chief test pilot military Ed Strongman.

Airbus - which only ran MSN001's four Europrop International TP400-D6 turboprop engines together for the first time on 18 November - says further taxi tests will be conducted "at increasingly high speeds" over the next few days. It expects the A400M to make its delayed flight debut before year-end.

Why did you post the exact same post, witty last line and all, in two different forums?

I, for one, wouldn't have known as I don't frequent the Aviation forum. Thanks Steyr, good stuff as always.

I like concussion tend to have a link directly solely to sights that I have an interest in! Aviation in general not usually being one of them. Unless its a plane thats been painted green or something of that nature.

Airfix might be able to do one within the defence budget limit.

any chance of a doctrinal reasoning for the purchace of this platform specificly - or indeed any of the other strategic/tactical transport aircraft programs that are available?

its no surprise that the IG been able to get away with the Defence budget is has, and the Defence and Foreign policy it has when instead of reasoned, well thought-out arguments for X investment providing Y capability producing Z policy result, the only discorse around such matters is little more than 'cor, look at the tits on that'. hardly an argument for putting your hand in your pocket and changing government policy...

harrumph... (rustling of the Daily Telegraph).

First off there is a recession on so its a no go anyway but she is on a few nations lists of new assets and also if in time proven somewhere down the line she would maybe be a good investment for the IAC if they ever decided to get tactical transports in the future if they ever hope to decide to operate out of Ireland but as ever we can always think about it..Cant we?

In all fairness you really go a bit too much into these things dont you? Im not the first and will definately not be the last to ever say id like to see something proper in IAC markings..

so think about it then - provide a rationale within a politial and military doctrine, the likely costs and benefits, and show why it would be a good thing.

    not **** over plane porn.

ps. you may have noticed that the recession goes somewhat beyond the shores of the republic - that hasn't stopped anyone else buying things they need.

That is true, however a single A400m would eat up 10% of the current defence budget without even having put the damn thing in the air.......

I suppose they could add it to the presidential flight so the IAC would finally have an aircraft capable of transporting Mary Harney. :p

To me, one of these makes a lot more sense than a flight of PC9's, now they really are a waste of money.
