Does anyone know answers to this question -

What's a typical rate of commission for someone involved in software sales?

    thanks!

There is simple no strightforward answer to this question. Its anywhere between a couple of % and up to 40% for commission only.

It depends on the type of software that you sell, the value of the deals and the complexity of the sale. Most companies implement a tiered system

An example for big ticket sales manager might be 3% up to the 100K per quarter, 6% thereafter as well as a bonus of for, say. hitting 750K in the year and a bonus for each new name.

A phone sales person or account manager will be totally different.

I would also say it depends on how new the company is behind the software as well.

I'm thinking about deals in the region of about 5-10K each, and the company is relatively new - ie 5-10 years old. The sales appointments are preset up by a telephone team.

I'm also really interested in the appropriate margin for commission increase when moving to commission only sales.

    Any thoughts?
