Present Sky HD Offer with Movies

Rang Sky regarding present HD offer, I said I was not interested in movies but I have Sky Sports and what would he charge me for getting HD installed, he said as I had a premium package HD box would be free with installation of 40 euro, despite the offer for movies.

Accepted offer, been cheeky asked about first month free for Movies, must have met somebody on a good day, He told me "go on as it's Christmas"

Not a bad result, free Sky HD box, and free movies for Christmas (his name was ......, maybe not fair to say)

    Install on 4th Dec

    Just one other comment:

I have had Sky for about 10 years now, originally the Sky Box, 3 or 4 years ago ungraded to Sky+, I have been a member of the forum for 4 years as well, I check the forum on a regular basis, and find the must of peoples issue and comments and problems are negative towards sky,

In my 10 years of Sky I have never had a problem, I believe I have been looked after fairly, never had a problem with any boxes that I have used and also got numerous deals over the years.

    Just felt like saying that!!!

When did you pay for the HD upgrade because their servers have been down for 2 days now and can't accept any credit card payments? I have all the sky channels but am upgrading to HD and the chap said i don't half to pay an extra €15 a month because i already have the full package? Now i thought it would be an extra €15 but said nothing, they are calling me tomorrow hopefully to finish the deal.

Let us know how that goes.

I have both premium makes and 2 multiroom subs, if I thought I could get HD for a one off cost of €40 I'd sign up tomorrow.

I rang Sky an hour ago to see about getting a Sky + box. We have Sky movies and sports (E73 per month). We have Sky since 2002. The first guy I got (Sky Ireland) said it was E49 for the box and E100 for connection. I asked what had to be connected as I was just changing know box. He said he didn't know and I should talk to customer service so he gave me a number to ring. The girl I got there was not in Ireland. She wanted £49 for the box and £60 for connection. I asked what it was in Euro and, wait for it, E49 for the box and E100 for connection - Connection Engineer are so much more expensive here! I said that was quite expensive so she said I should talk to the local sales office and she duly put me through. This is great I said to myself, the lads here will look after me! and I wasn't to be disappointed. I explained for the third time what I needed and he said it was E49 for the box and E200, yes E200 for connection. I responded in surprise that the last lady said it was E100?? Direct Quote "Ara she dosen't know what we charge here!"

He did say that if I took HD for a year I could get the box for free with only a E40 connection charge, and only an addiional E15 per month on top of the E73 I am currently paying.
I respectively declined and hung up feeling slightly confused as to what to next. I guess I will just keep my 7 year old box and continue to pay E73 per month to watch the same channel in every room....has anyone any options on recording from sky without it costing me E249 or more to the point, without me having to give Sky an additional E249

    I respectively

Yes, box is free, but I have to pay HD subscription monthly from the start not after 12 months, Sky are not going to give out Free Sky HD box and not sign up to Sky subscription.

Well you can have FTA HD Channels only, BBC, LUXE, and whatever other ones appear in the next year if any!

another rip off imo, wont be getting that

yeah they really are flogging the HDbox for christmas a lot....but you commit to 15 euro for a few extra channels if you dont want movies or sports...and no bbcHD which is a surprise.. surely they should at least provide that..... but it would work out at an extra2.50 if UPC's pricing is anything to go by..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 679 ✭✭✭Wizard007

Yeah but there are only 8 channels in HD with UPC - 33 with Sky.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 742 ✭✭✭channelsurfer

the 33 include movies and sports... more or less the same lineup on upc as sky without movies or sports....sky1 and arts being the exceptioin. your 15 euro does not entitle you to the movies and sports ones unless you subscribe to those packs...

That's the option that's available to the customer channelsurfer. If they don't want to pay the sub then Sky+ is the option for them. No one forces anyone to have Sky+ HD.

The original post was about the deal brenny2506 got from Sky and as usual it's turned into a rant about their pricing. If people don't want to subscribe to it then don't. Simple as!!

My point in posting was despite Sky's campaign for Christmas offering Free Sky HD Box to anyone who signed up for movies, they are offering it to whoever has Sky Sports as well, which has not been mentioned. I watch sports mainly, so now I have Sky Sports HD, Eurosport HD, ESPN HD, I was under no illusion I was aware I had to pay Subscription of 14.75 a month, in fact a paid it up front for year 177 euro. People were paying 200/300 euro for Sky HD Boxes a year or so ago as well as subscription, so going from those prices to free seems good value, I bought a 42" LCD HDTV for 750 euro last January, I saw it in DID Electrical for still the same price last week. I am in a position, fortunately, where I can treat myself, I am well aware others are not. I only spend what I can afford so I am willing to pay HD subscription.

Next year I expect to be watching Winter Olympics on Eurosport HD, NBA on ESPN HD, EPL and Champions League on Sky HD, 6 nations on BBC HD (hopefully if they show it), World Cup on BBC HD and ITV HD, If Formula I was on BBC HD perfect!!

I will be a new sky customer in 2weeks time and the deal I got offered is:
-40 euro connection for Sky HD (I went with extra 15 euro a month to get the HD Box)
-Free premium channel (sports & movies) for 1st month / christmas

Me only concern now is whether to get a full HD plasma or hd ready plasma, as I heard Sky HD looks much better on HD Ready than the higher spec full HD. Even though I'll have sky hd for at least a year, i'll probably only have premium hd channels for a month and will be watching sky SD mostly...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 679 ✭✭✭Wizard007

By right they should just have it as who ever upgrades with a premium. It might have something to do with the Movie packages being cheaper than Sports, they're are quoting the pricing on their sales material.

Anyway, you will abselutely love it :)

get a full hd. that way when you get a blu ray player you can utlitise the full 1080p.
there isnt any difference watching on full hd or hd ready. (on hd channels )
