    Hi All.....

I've had a problem with my left foot for the last two months or so which I self diagnosed as Plantar Fasciitis and confirmed same last night with the help of a student physio I met.....I need to find the cause and try rectify as it's affecting my desire to go running and also due to go skiing in Jnauary and have been told that it will be very troublesome if not sorted!

Any idea whether I start with GP or go the Physio or Podiatrist direction...Any suggestions appreciated - I'm based in Dublin so South or South West Dublin for treatment would be best!

    Thanks,

    2d2

I have the same problem since Kenmare triathlon in Sept. I went to physio straight away as was trying to get it sorted for DCM but after a couple of weeks I realised that was never going to happen. I was given a programe of stretches/excercises mainly calf related and had some needle therapy.

I decided to rest it and have only been cycling and in gym since.
Last week started some very light running again and think I still felt it but it might be my head playing tricks with me as I am concerned that it could be something that will be with me for a long time.
I intend to continue with really light runs for coming weeks and if I still have issues go back to physio and or get a proper scan done.

Let us know how u get on

From my own personal experience, the only thing that cleared mine up was orthotics but we are all different so professional advice is better.

Freeze a bottle of water or get a golf ball and role it under your foot for therapy.

Definitely go to a physio to get it properly assessed, relative to your own situation (age, level of exercise etc). Also, it can be surprising where the original source of the problem is.

In my case, I was a little underwhelmed at the range of exercises that the physio gave me, and after a few visits, I felt I wasn't getting much out of it, so I just checked out the internet for good exercises. And there are some pretty good sites out there.

Thanks Poncherello, Plodder...I will head the Physio direction, was given a name this afternoon that comes well recommended!

stmochtas, tried the golf ball in work today and found it pretty sore so presumably I've done a bit more damage than I'd originally thought...Just back from a 5 mile run and rolling a frozen bottle of water under my foot as we speak!

Well, went to Physio today and I do have Plantar.....He checked my gait and very close to neutral and he reckoned my Kayanos were perfect runners for me structurally but too big which would not have been giving me the support required...He feels I should get re-sized! Also gave me stretches to do each day for a week and then each day I'm going to run - calf/achilles/foot stuff. But jeez the massage element of the treatment was one of the sorest things in years...!!
