Im using a good mouthwash and putting bonjela like cream on the gum/lip ones however the ones on my tongue are excruciating as they all are at points where my tongue touches my teeth so its verrry sore to talk, eat, swallow etc.

Can ulcers be burst or something or do I have to sit them out? Going to the dentist today...
    Thanks

I have 6 on my tongue alone, 3 came on in the last night. About 3 on my gums/inside of my lips. Couple with a strepped/infected throat and these loose flaps of gum skin hanging over my molars which are making another push up and inhibiting me from chewing at all, Im in a right bit of discomfort. Oh my glands are also huge and swollen, as are my gums, possibly gingivitis?

Yeah AFAIK you just have to sit them out. I suffer from bouts of mouth ulcers, doctor says they dont have a cause known - it just "happens" for some people:confused:. Anyway alternate between rounds of bonjela and saltwater rinses and it goes away quicker and less painfully (3-5days normally for me)

One particular oral medicine specialist hated bonjela because it has a constituent in it similar to the active ingredient in aspirin, which can cause chemical burns.

The protocol I recommend to patients is chlorhexidine mouthwash (Corsodyl) and Difflam for pain relief. You do have to sit them out but chlorhexidine should ensure that they don't last longer because of secondary infection.

A friend had gingivitis, but was diagnosed by doctor not dentist. About twelve mouth ulcers cropped up in a matter of hours. doc put her on antibiotic for throat, a green mouthwash called d1ffl*m and a steroid cream fuc1d1ne for lips, as lips had scabbed over and stuck together, then bled when tried to open.
another doctor told her gingivitis didn't exist anymore?!!!

She was out of action for about three weeks, really took it out of her.
sipped on yougurts and icecream when possible.

quirkster, really hope you don't have that, it's terrible.
    best of luck

Thanks for that info Big G, never actually thought to try corsodyl and difflam at the same time!

Try some Strepsils Lozenges they can numb up your mouth too. They really helped me when I had a horrible dose last year & had sore spots all inside my mouth.

i get them loads and i find that there is a pasty (really, really pasty/tacky) substance that i think is in a small yellow tube (???). i think it has a steroid in it and it was on prescription. last i heard they stopped selling it in the south but you might still be able to get it in the north. was told this the last time i went to the chemist for it. they gave me an over the counter similar cream that didnt have the steroid but was ok. i found it the original the thing that worked best for me.

you can get a gel called orabase from your chemist thet will stick to the ulcer and make it more comfortable.bonjela is useless.
If you have a lot of recurrent ulcers and a good diet maybe get a blood test from your gp espicially if you have any intestinal probs

hm I suffer from mouth Ulcers also but not so much as a few years back. Found the more regular my sleep pattern was the less of them I get. They always reappear when I get run down.

    Ulcers are so sore :(
I always get them when I am stressed. When I was in uni I always got them at exam time. January and May, every year, without fail!

I used to only ever get ulcers when I bit my lip. Bonjela was a waste of time because it would slip off the area before being absorbed. I then moved onto Ambesol but found the only way I got any relief from it was not by dabbing it on but to go to a mirror, bend my lip down, seal the neck of the little bottle over the ulcer and tilt the bottle upside down, basically submerging the bugger in ambesol for 30 seconds.

Then I found something that worked, not alone for pain relief but it seemed to get rid of the buggers quicker. Thats antiseptic anesthetic throat spray. Little bottle of red liquid with a directable nozzle. I'd spray the ulcer and the anesthetic would numb the area for an hour or two and the antseptic was probably doing some good too.

Haven't had an ulcer in about 13 years. Been smoking for 13 years. Make of that what you will :D Maybe all the toxins in the fags are killing the mouth bacterial fauna that cause ulcers while at the same time killing me :D Actually there might be genuine valid science there. Wasn't there work being done on a chemical paint to protect teeth from bacteria derived from the tobacco plant??

I found that the best thing to use on mouth ulcers is TCP. Dip a cotton bud into it and apply to the ulcer. It stings but it numbs the pain and helps heal the ulcer.
