A convicted murderer and former aide to the Duchess of York has gone missing from an open prison, the Ministry of Justice said.

Jane Andrews, who is serving a life sentence for bludgeoning and stabbing her boyfriend to death, failed to return to East Sutton Park prison in Kent on Sunday night.

A spokesman for the prison service said: "Jane Andrews is believed to have absconded from HMP East Sutton Park on November 22 after being found missing at the 8pm roll-check."

"Police have been informed and are assisting with the search."
Andrews was convicted in 2001 of murdering Tom Cressman at the house they shared in The Maltings, Fulham, south-west London.

She was found guilty of hitting the wealthy businessman on the head with a cricket bat and then stabbing him. A jury at the Old Bailey accepted the prosecution case that she killed him in revenge because he refused to marry her.

Sources said Andrews had just been moved to the Kent prison and took a paracetamol overdose last week, for which she needed hospital treatment.
Andrews, who went on the run for four days after Mr Cressman's death, worked for the Duchess of York as a dresser for nine years until 1997.
She appealed against her murder conviction in 2003 on the grounds that she had been sexually abused by her brother as a child, which he vehemently denied. She said the trauma damaged her personality and meant that she was not guilty of murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

This was dismissed by the Court of Appeal, along with claims that Mr Cressman had domestically abused and raped her. Andrews, who has been in open prison since July this year, will be eligible for release in 2012 when the parole board will decide if she can go free.

Terribley rotten crass behavior altogether imo.
This type of carry on could ruin it for all the other 'prisoners' in 'open prisons'.

I mean - at some point the public may just lose faith that the honour system has a place in prison society.:(

She had best come back soon and apolgise (and mean it) to everyone for sauntering off like that.

Great point there Kradock, You're dead right there.

Let's disallow (or at least whinge about) all stories that aren't entirely based in Éire.
I purpose deletion of all threads that are about anything that isn't 100% Irish, threads past and present.

Sure we need ta give our own stories a chance, it's only right.

We can call it the GK™ seal.

Irish Open-prison escapes have been a bit thin on the ground this week, unfortunately.

It's supposed to be a prison not a holiday camp.
I don't care if it ruins it for all the other prisoners.

And I agree with Kradock, it's in the UK, doesn't immediately effect us here.

Especially threads about escaped murderers, in a country that we have open passport free border crossings with..

Sometimes one has to discount national boundaries in the constant quest for rabble-fuel.

Fuuuck. I wonder if he refused to marry her because she's obviously barmy. Lose-lose situation for him.

You think I'm a 'West Brit' because I posted a story about someone escaping from a UK prison?!

Would I be 'a wannabe yank' if I posted a thread about Obama??
You don't know the first thing about my feelings on Britain, America or Ireland based on this thread.

If you want to go whinge about 800 years or whatever is troubling your poor mind at the moment, you've picked a bizarre target.
    Your post is ridiculous.

I don't really care what you are or what you "wannabe".
I find your assumption that I want to discuss 800 years of anything are well off the mark. I haven't enough knowledge of anything that spans 800 years to be able to "whinge" about it.

I wasn't presuming you are a "West Brit" but your determination to defend the fact you are not deserves merit.

My intial post on this thread was meant to be tongue in cheek , hence the sarcastic smiley.

    Have a nice day.:)
