Insomnia.... grrrrrrrrr

So I was out on Sat night, got fairly drunk, felt rubbish yesterday, felt dodgy today. It's now heading for 12.40am and although I'm really tired and sleepy, I can't get to sleep. My brain just won't shut down. It's just randomly thinking lots of stuff and me being a paranoid hypochondriac doesn't help either :)

I think the drink has had an effect. I've noticed recently the hangovers and stuff linger on longer as I mentioned in another post earlier today about giving up drinking.

So anyone else got any tips for nodding off? I have to be up in about 6 hours as well and I want to head to the gym tomorrow and don't want to skive off as I'm too tired. I tried reading but that didn't help.

Turning off your computer might help

The computer was off and I was in bed but came back online in the hopes it would tire me out enough to sleep.

Try listening to some soft ambient music - you could make a playlist through youtube and let it play out. I've heard it can work wonders!

your problem was u stopped drinking OP. Knock back another shot of whiskey (or any strong beverage of your choice) and sleep should follow no problem.

have a drink of something (maybe not alcohol) :pac:

Tell yourself as you're drinking it that when it's finished you're getting into bed and going to sleep.

Then get into bed turn off the light and just lie there eyes closed

You'll be in sleepy bye-bye afore ya know it ;)

Oh, I am on beautiful pills for anxiety atm and they are f'n hell. Work wonders but golly they do not let me sleep.
I went out at the weekend though, had two drinks and I slept like a baby,
the spinnies are my friend <3

Have you tried having a bath and all that jazz??
I have no tips after that really,
try listening to a song that you know so well, and sing the lyrics
i nod off after a while.
listening to a clock ticking works, also.

Get one of them old audiobooks from Project Guthenburg. I find I always fall asleep after the first chapter of Sherlock Holmes. Basically, you are concentrating on the story, so you can't think of anything else.

Have yourself a hot whiskey and watch come meaningless mind numbing tv for 20 minutes / half an hour. Forget about everything and don't think.

Soon enough you'll be out for the count.

Don't have any whiskey? not to worry, the main thing is to clear your mind anyway. Just relax.

5 am  I went to bed at 1am, lay awake for 3 hours and then turned on my laptop and browsed youtube and boards for the last hour. I was thinking about staying awake all night but whenever I do that I feel like crap the next day and I'll fall asleep in the afternoon and stay up late the following night again.
