I priced a backbox for a Xsara a few weeks back in the motor factors, was €46. any second hand exhaust you buy is likely to be on the way out. The 96 and 00 engines are different. the one you have is the 1.4e (Renault 19 engine) so any second hand one you buy will be old.

what part is gone?

If its only the back box you'll pick up a new one yourself very cheap €45 or so, then just pop it on.

Not sure to be honest. Heading off to mechanic tomorrow. Car is backfiring and is sounding like a tank when i rev.

I got a new backbox & springbolts for a Honda Civic fitted for €65 two weeks ago in Galway. He wanted €80 but I bargained him down. Its not that expensive and not worth the hassle in getting a second hand one.
