Thunder B weak spoon hinge

My friend just picked up a Thunder B, we took it outside to his shed and set it on the ground with a Thunderflash shell on it and pulled the pin just to give it a go.

The shell split quite extensively but not along one of the seam lines and the spoon was blown off taking half of its hinge mounting with it.

My friend will of course be taking it and his reciept back to the retailer tomorrow but as I have two of the things I'm just wondering if anyone else has encountered or knows/has heard of someone who has encountered this problem. Did my friend just get a dud?

    What Lefty said.
I've 2 of these and had no problems except when the pin got pulled out by a passing branch at Red Barn :D

Right, we just examined it and I'll have some illustrative pics later.

There's a big difference in distance from the spoon at top of the shell between pinapple and soundflash. Where the shell ruptured the top is split open where the spoon would have been at its nearest point, we figure the spoon was blown back with a large part of the rupture force and when it hit the stop at the back kept going, where the hinge piece fractured would seem to back this up.

    EDIT: Pictures

Here is a quick shot of the damage

Shape comparison with the pinapple type
The pinapple breaks a bit further down too where the top of the pinapple shape begins

Here's one showing broken and intact soundflash (the spoon in these images is sitting on where it usually goes, the grenade has been kept in the retrieved condition for presentation to the retailer)

This shows how we think the break happened, the intact one is sitting on its stop

Same here, always used the pineapples, looks like there might be a possible risk of breakage using the soundflash shells - even so, I think the overall design concept is basically sound, and it makes a great bang :D
