Bricking up extractor fan hole?

While redoing the kitchen I have removed an old extractor fan from the outside wall, only to discover a gaping hole in the wall..

My intention is to replace that with a 100mm vent pipe.
I can center the pipe alright, but I'm wondering what the best way to fill the space around?

It's way to big to use expandable foam (tho technically possible).
Or just fill it with debris and fill out with foam in layers?

Rockwool in the middle and mortar/plaster to seal it doesn't sound right to me either.

    Any advise welcome.
    TIA,
    WD

I would just cement the new pipe into place, and cement in broken bits of brick / concrete edging to build up the gaps all around.

1 part cement per 2 parts sand would do. Wet the wall your cementing onto with water too, so the cement doesn't dry too quickly at the interface.
