Hi. This morning i tried to apply the 6.20 update to my PSP. Halfway through the update though the PSP just turned off and wont turn back on. The battery is fully charged and i have no custom firmware. Anybody know whats wrong and can i fix it?

Okay, you have bricked your PSP, or should I say something happened during the update and the PSP has been bricked. What this means is that the flash memory on the PSP, which has the boot files which turn on the PSP, are corrupted. What advice anyone can give you is going to depend on what PSP model it is. Is it a launch PSP or PSP-2000? Or is it one of the newer PSPs, a PSP-3000 or a PSPgo?

If it's an older PSP model you will be able to fix it or have someone else fix it. If it's a newer PSP model you're going to have to contact Sony.

Yes it is fixable, so long as the 'brick' is software based. Because you PSP was bricked during an update I would say it's a software brick (i.e. to do with the flash memory). What you're going to have to do is either get a Pandora battery and 'flash' your PSP, or bring it to a console repairs place and have them do it for you.

A Pandora battery is what people use to hack older PSPs, it works by writing files to the flash memory of the PSP (i.e. the files that are now corrupted on your PSP). So effectively you will be hacking your PSP, but once it is hacked you will be able to update to 6.20 if you so wish.

You can get a Pandora battery here($8, free shipping) and read about the files you'll need and the process of using the Pandora method here (I'm pretty sure this method works best from a PC with Windows XP).

If all that sounds like too much work, you may be able to find a fellow Boardsie in your area to do it for you, or visit a console repair shop and they should be able to do it for you no problem.

I wonder who on earth wrote that guide?
