So I just recently moved home and was greatly looking forward to sitting down with my Les Paul for the first time in over a year and making some choons. Alas I discovered that the electrics are ****ed and I can't use the thing.
Does anyone know of any good places where I can get it repaired in Cork?

Basicly my understanding is that all the guitar shops in town will bring it up to this one place up a kinda alley past cash converters. Sorry i cant remember the name of the the place for the life of me at the moment, but youl prob get cheaper rates is you bring it to them direct.

Il try to remember the place, in the mean time someone else here might know where im on about.

You're thinking of Stevie Nix on McCurtain St.

For what it's worth I know a few people who wouldn't recommend him, but for what you want he should be grand.

Personally I have had mixed dealings with his shop, I left a crappy amp in there for a simple repair and didn't get it back for over a month (Stevie doesn't fix the amps, there's another guy there with him for that), though I did have Stevie do a set up of my guitar a few years back and he did a grand job.

Thats the lad alright. /its only the two guys in there so they would have a crazy workload, Haven't had much experience with his shop but friends of mine have had a bit o work done in there and it all turned out grand. If anyone else has any other places they would recommend in cork please do as i wouldn't mind know the alternatives myself.

Theres another guy in the phone book living in carrigaline who fixes guitars. His name is james o callaghan or else coughlan cant remember to be exact but hes in there under guitar repairs.
I brought my LP to steve nixon a few years ago to sort out tuning problems and he didnt fix do a very good job so i went to the guy in carrigaline twice.

It's most likely that one of the wires has just separated from your jack socket if the guitar worked previously, and isn't working at all now. 5 minutes with a soldering iron would sort it out. Did one on a strat for a lad last month when I was repainting it for him, he thought it was a major ordeal, quick little blob of solder and it was grand after.

A friend of mine used Nixons for an amp repair and happy with them. as above, its some other lad does the amps. I sent a fender acoustic in there a few months back and he made a complete bake of it. its a nice guitar, but when i got it back EVERY string was buzzing and it honestly sounded like the worst setup i ever came across. i wouldnt recommend there. the electrics are very basic. if i was you id inspect it first. its probably a loose wire, that would be easy to spot and fix!

    Hey there,
I used S. Nixxon for repairs to my early '70s Strat and was not in the least bit impressed. One of my buddies also had him do some work and from what I heard / felt when I played his guitar when he got it back I reckoned it was worse than before.

I have heard nothing but good things about that guy in Carigaline - one of my other buddies has had him do work on his Les Paul............a perfect job was done. Not sure of his name but I am sure that he is top notch.

The gentleman in Carrigaline is James Halloran.

I've used him for over 10 years and forget cork, this guy is the best in the south of Ireland. ALWAYS amazing work and a gent to boot!

I can't rate his work highly enough...... :D

I can PM anyone his number if ye like

Have used Nixon a couple times before, very unimpressed with his work, sloppy imo. Guy in kinsale i use called peter harding, he's the guy who put this together (wired from scratch, attached everything, set up etc), does a fantastic job and is fairly cheap, i'll PM on his number to you

James O Halloran is fantastic for setup, but I don't think he does the electrics (as in the actual wiring etc. - he does setup electric guitars tho)
