    hey,

With the recent rain I have destroyed a set of notes while cycling home and with the sale on crc I am going to get a waterproof bag. the main consideration is what size to get.

most days i would be carrying a laptop, notepad, 2 or 3 folders, a spare jacket, lock, water bottle and coffee mug so a considerable amount. in terms of the chrome bags, would the metropolis be enough to fit that comfortably or would i be better off with the kremlin? Any info you can offer would be great. Also I have looked pictures on the internet but still find it difficult to get a good idea.

    Cheers

I went for the citizen (medium) and i've never found it too small and even when it's not full it still sits nicely on my back. have a friend that has the smaller size and he finds it just a bit too small.

It's worth pointing out that for a messenger bag to sit properly, it has to wrap around your body a bit, so it's needs to have capacity beyond what you're putting in it. Otherwise it can get a bit uncomfortable...not a disaster if you're just taking a treasury box full of paper down the road, but it could be a real pain in the hoop on a twice daily commute. I've never owned a Chrome bag though so can't give you any insight on their models specifically.

Is that not a lot of stuff to be carrying on your back. Would you not be beeter off with a set of panniers?

I have both the citizen and the kremlin bag. The citizen would hold all the stuff you list, but it would be FULL and, as rottenhat points out, the closer the bags gets to capacity, the less comfortable the bag becomes.

The Kremlin is bleedin' mahoosive. I've used it for travelling and for moving extraordinary large things bulky things, it would be way over sized for your requirements.

Metropolis is the size you want I think. But panniers might be worth a shot either.

i have the metropolis its pretty big. i think the Kremlin would be too big but the citizen maybe 2 small. i carry similar to you, U lock, water bottle, spraymount, A3 sketch pad, SLR cam, climbing gear/ running gear and all that stationary i student of my ilk might need. and the metropolis can handle it, i can use it for weekend trips away and that too although i pack light,
other than that its an amazing bag and really well made you won't regret the purchase,

I suspect paniers would not be good for the laptop. Carrying that on your back is probably better for it.

That said, I wouldn't carry a bag on my back when on the bike...

Maybe a small bag for the laptop on your back and a pannier or panniers for the rest? Or could you forget about the laptop and just carry a memory stick?

cheers fellas, decided to get the metropolis as I reckoned the kremlin would look ridiculously big. As for the amount that I carry, it is a lot but I tend to throw most of it in my locker once I get in and carry what I need for lectures during the day so it would be easier to have a bag rather than a pannier bag.

Also, I switch bike from time to time and dont have a rack on either at the moment so that would be slightly limiting.

    Thanks for the advice!
