USA have qualified for Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand after recording a 27-6 home win over Uruguay to complete a 54-28 aggregate play-off victory over Los Teros.

USA captain Todd Clever scored two tries at Broward County Regional Park, Lauderhill, Florida to assist his team to a total of eight touchdowns during the two matches.

Uruguay's only points came through two Jerónimo Etcheverry penalties, to add to the 13 points he scored in the first leg.

In front of 2237 spectators, Mike Hercus kicked a penalty for the home side early on, before Lou Stanfill and Kevin Swiryn extended USA's lead with two first-half tries.

Etcheverry kicked penalties either side of half time to bring Uruguay back to 13-6 down, but Clever touched down twice in the second period to leave the final score at 27-6.

Uruguay were not helped when Uruguay prop Mario Sagario was sent off with 25 minutes remaining.

USA will face Australia, Ireland, Italy and a European qualifier in Pool C at RWC 2011, playing matches in New Plymouth, Wellington and Nelson.

Uruguay will have one last chance to qualify through the cross-continental play-off.

    Well done to EOS. :)

    Confirmed teams:

Pool A: New Zealand, France, Tonga, Canada, Asian qualifier 1

Pool B: Argentina, England, Scotland, European qualifier 1, PLW (?)

Pool C: Australia, Ireland, Italy, European Qualifier 1, US Eagles

Pool D: South Africa, Wales, Fiji, Samoa, African Qualifier 1

Four very interesting groups there, based on the current team form, I wouldn't be able to predict the winners of any of those groups with any level of certainty, especially Pool B.

Just looking at it now England can be thankful the seeding draw was done at the end of 2008.They should win that group.

If we come 2nd in our group will be playing the winner of England's group i.e England?

Well done to EOS and his team.I'm sure they'll target the European qualifier(Romania,Georgia??) for a win.

Looks like our group is going to be:

    Ireland
    Australia
    Italy
    USA
    Russia

Seems we're down to play the yanks on the 10th aniversary of 9/11. Could be a potential banana skin, I'd imagine the yanks will be extremely fired up for it and lets not forget the EOS factor. I'd imagine it will be a win but not a very comfortable one.

Italy and Russia, 2 tiring matches but both should be comfortable wins.

Australia, I think we can take them, probably giving us a QF against the Argies of all peplle.

    Pool B is very open.

On current form any of Argentina, England or Scotland could win the pool.

France vs New Zealand will be the pool match of the tournament, the ABs will be desperate to beat the French after 1999 and 2007 defeats.

I don't know about that. When the Argies are at full strength with a bit of prep time behind them they're no mugs. Argentina to justify top seeding for me.

I too would like to know why they're referred to as the US Eagles.

It's all to do with the branding of the sport over there i'd say.

I'll be interested to see how the USA gets on with the extra time they'll get to train with IRB funding. I'd say EOS could do great things with them, hopefully they give the Italians a good game, but I can't see them doing anything to trouble Ireland or Aus (at least I don't think its very likely). USA - Russia could be a good game too if it ends up that way.

You could say the same for the Springboks, All Blacks, Wallabies, Pumas, Azzurri and Cherry Blossoms (not the most butch of names). It's no big deal, if they want to tart it up and get more interest, then why the hell not...

Also Ireland A were supposed to be re-branded for these AI's. There was a competition in the supporters club to rename them. Mustn't have gotten any decent entries as they didnt get a name change yet. What do you think? Ireland Leprechauns maybe? :pac:
