Bit of an odd question, but i read somewhere about UK companies that are involved in tracking pedophiles and/or safeguarding kids from them, does anyone know any such companies? If not, does anyone know if all that work is done by police departments, or if the people involved are civil servants or what? It's an area i'm hoping to train to get into, looking to see who to contact to find out what i should study to be best useful.

Not sure if it's a company or just volunteers but Internet Watch Foundation are a crowd I've heard mentioned quite a bit -- http://www.iwf.org.uk/

There are NO safe-harbour laws in Ireland so it's ILLEGAL for anyone including the Garda to view pc even during an investigation.

? This is completely incorrect. The Gardai can and do investigate personal computers. It is Gardai who do the examinations though, not civilians.

To the OP, you want to read up on computer forensics. There are several university based courses in Ireland. There's a list at http://www.forensicfocus.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=4853

You can also take cert courses like the ones SANS offer.

Apart from Gardai, the major computer forensics people would be accounting companies like Ernst&Young, Deloitte and I think KPMG. That's part of their fraud/auditing sections. There are also smaller companies which just focus on forensics such as Rits.

As with most jobs at the moment, there isn't much work going however.
