    hi all

i used to use cakewalk PA 6 and despite
it taking quite a long time to get the knack of it,
    i eventually did,

i used a soundblaster live card
with soundfonts and all that and it was good,
    i could lay some tracks

now i have bought an m-audio audiophile usb
(used) on a bit of a whim, and now trying sonar

i cant believe that a dedicated soundcard cannot monitor,
i have to run sonar to hear my guitars!
and there is a delay (even though both sonar and the audiophile are maxed out on latency)

is this normal? my crappy onboard soundcard plays "live"

    rgds

What is your latency settings at?

I'm assuming it would also depend on the power of your computer. Is it an older processor? What about RAM?

You need a lot more RAM for reliable audio work.

I use a Mac so I don't know a whole lot about audio on a PC or the programmes you mention.
My interface has a direct monitoring option so I don't have to have anything running. I would have thought that would have been standard.
Do you have a manual for your interface?
