1.8 TDCi LX only has 100bhp which is not great these days even more so in a car the size and weight of the Mondeo. The Zetec has the same engine but with more power at 125bhp which makes a big difference.

Zetec is also better equipped than the LX. Zetec comes with rear electric windows, climate control, cruise control, front fog lights, sports seats, alloy wheels and titanium effect interior trim.

its 110 bhp, given the weight of the car the 125bhp zetec would just about be acceptable. a 1.8 litre would have been ideal, how in gods name do they put a 1.6L in that car!

He is looking at diesel Mondeos not petrol. 1.8 TDCi is 100bhp.

Mondeo is a great car but only with the right spec and engine. Avoid the LX model - this is why some people have a poor opinion of the mondeo.

The zetec is a much better buy and is a much nicer place to be, but I would look for a Titanium or Titanium X is you can (albeit, they are rare here compared to the Uk)- there is such a difference in spec and well worth the little extra. I have driven the 2.0 and the 2.2 which I feel are both more suited to this new mondeo model. The 1.8 is slightly underpowered for what is the heaviest mondeo yet but still a fine engine just avoid the LX
