Lads.. do you shave your eyebrows? Ladies - opinions?

A lad asked me this, maybe a year ago, I thought he was mental.. "of course I don't ya fairy" says I.

Yesterday, a mate asked me the same question during Maths.
    "Urm.. yeah :o" I said.
"Good, and me. Ever trying plucking it?"
    "Erm.. *cough*. Shut up Cam"
"Yeah, and me.. but it's too much hassle".

The thing is, my eyebrows seem to form a weird sort of 'M' shape, so I felt the only thing to do was shave down the middle. It means I have to do it fairly often, but I just do it with the morning shave, doesn't take any time at all.

Now a few lads I know have said they do, I used to think it was quite taboo, because it seems quite an effeminate thing to do; most people don't seem to have a problem with it.. but I'm sure some do

So is anyone else willing to admit they do?

    So do you? 135 votes

    Yep.. what's the problem?

Well when I'm getting a haircut, I have mine cut about every two weeks, I always have my barber trim my brow's.

I hate bush 'old man brows!.

I have a tiny little (no, not cock) silver electric Babyliss thing that you switch on and it trims nose hair, ear hair () and you use this to trim your eyebrows. Just to be well groomed like :)

By the way BrummyTom (BrummyBoy in my head for some reason :D) you do realise that you have only one insult in the Poll and so .. ya just know there can be only one outcome. right? :pac:

Started around 18months ago :D I've got hairy genes. No, not jeans.

    Exactly!

I found out in the Irish Centre, so I'm blaming your country. Talking to a fella I'd never met before, he knew my auntie's family and I went to school with his kids - 'Irish mafia' they call it :P

Him: "You still go into Erdington much?"
Me: "Yeah.. just for haircuts and things like that."
    Him: "Not.. not Bob Embrys?"
    Me: "Yeah :)"
Him: "Erm.. he's dead you know"
    Me: ""

I've got a mad looking sticky out hair on my right brow that has been there for months, and a slowly forming unibrow in the middle, but wouldn't dream of trimming!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 193 ✭✭MAB83

I pluck the middle so I don't have a uni brow but that's about it, they don't need to be shaved. I think any man without overly bushy eyebrows doesn't need to shave or pluck them.

But guys that don't look after the uni brow look like the evil Simpsons baby. Sort it out!

I used to go to an Irish club in Birmingham, with my dad who lived in Erdington. Thankfully, my Dad's not a barber.

Oh, by the way, PLUCK. Shaving them is manky.

The Irish centre, Digbeth; opposite the Custard Factory?

    Where abouts in Erdington?
Sorry, whenever someone mentions Birmingham on here I become Columbo

No idea Columbo. It was a long time ago. To give you some idea of the era, I bought a black leather jacket with long fringes all over it at the Bullring market :D. I wore it to the Irish Club that night along with skinny jeans (the first time round) and stilettos.

I probably started plucking my eyebrows around the same time, and don't have to do it anymore - they get the hint after 20 years. Invest in your eyebrows now young man.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,845 ✭✭✭Jet Black

My girlfriend convinced me to let her wax my eyebrow's.
Big mistake, my forehead was red and everyone in work knew I'd got it done. I'm still getting slagged over it:-(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,572 ✭✭✭✭brummytom

I used to pluck every now and then.

The once, I was in a rush and stuck the thingymajiggy.. what's it called? The plucker thingy In my pocket.

Later that night, was out with some mates and got stopped by a group of around 20 lads, one went through my pockets. It was Good Friday.. all I could think was "If they find that, I'll be the one getting fucking crucified.

Right, so wimminz then.. what do you think? Would you mind a bloke with a bit of hair between their two eyebrows, or would you prefer them to do the slightly womanly thing and get rid of it?

You might feel silly for about five minutes while trimming your unibrow, but trust me, it's a lot better than looking stupid 24/7 with one :P

I'd definitely prefer a guy with trimmed eyebrows than one with a unibrow!

I have a unibrow, but no, never even considered shaving/trimming/plucking it.

I haven't yet, but I would definetly consider it if I was getting a serious unibrow. Thankfully, there's a healthy gulf between my eyebrows.

Do NOT shave your eyebrows. If you must, pluck them. When your 60 odd and you don't care much for personal grooming to such an extent, you will have a caterpillar over your eyes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,691 ✭✭✭Lia_lia

Yeah, get rid of that unibrow!

(says the girl that has never had her eyebrows plucked or waxed :o )

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,909 ✭✭✭✭Wertz

Trim the excess and straggling/overlong hairs? Sure. Not by plucking them though...

Shave them? F*ck no. They're there for a good reason.
Besides, the goldfish look doesn't work for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166 ✭✭james1234

The eyebrow has a purpose, to keep dirt/dust/dead skin/sweat etc, out of the eye area, so shaving it would basically leave you open to all sorts of potential problems.

If you really need to, go for plucking, waxing would be for the girls unless you'd want to cover up the manky red mark with make up, or risk getting slagged as per a previous poster!

    My 2 cents!

If you do go for shaving, please do post a before and after pic for reference :D

Why is it womanly? Men shave, and they (hopefully) trim excessive nose hair. How is tweezing out a unibrow any different?

That said, the men with the waxed and shaped eyebrows (and beyond) are a little too much for me. See Exhibit A.
