Can anyone tell me what video formats the new UPC HD+ STB outputs? There should be a choice in the settings menu. My current UPC STB only outputs RGB, does the HD+ output S-Video or Component as well?

i dont really understand what you are asking for
are you talking about the connections on the back of the box

The HD box only does HDMI, I think. S-Video would be a bit pointless on an HD box, yes?

Thanks guys. I understand that the HD+ STB has HDMI & SCART connections. However, as far as I can work out, there are 3 different video formats: Component, S-Video & RGB (in descending order of quality). On a DVD player or STB you can usually go into the set-up menu & select which type of video format you want to output through the SCART. My current STB only outputs RGB, could someone with a HD+ STB check their set-up menu & see if you get a choice of Video format?

    Thanks a million...

On a HD box, that is irrelevant, if you want HD then you can only use HDMI and it uses its own format. The options for Scart are the same as what you listed above, but Scart won't give you HD.

HDMI is pretty plug and play, there is no fiddling with different output formats.

    Thanks for the replies,

I have my UPC STB connected to my PC & use Windows 7 Media Center for all my tv recordings etc. The only connection I can currently use is RGB Composite as my current STB won't output S-Video. The TV picture quality is good but not great. I was thinking of getting the HD+ if I could use a SCART S-Video output to my PC. I've also read here that the SD channels seem to have a better picture with HD+. Unfortunately, I can't find any TV Tuner cards with an HDMI input. I love the W7MC experience & I'm not that bothered on getting full HD at the package price & channel selection UPC currently have...

So- can the HD+ output S-Video via SCART?

there is no option to select s-video on the hd box

this will allow you to connect scart to s-video

FYI, while expensive, you could do HD recording using the following two devices:

    1) HDFury
    2) Hauppauge HD PVR
