    I applied for a co-ordinator job at work a few weeks back and was a little disappointed today to hear that the team leader would not consider me for the role. I've been in the company nearly two years at this stage and work as an analyst. I thought role was ideal for me, as I've got a bit of project management experience and have been in the area a while. She wanted to interview me instead as a support co-ordinator, as she said I had a lot of knowledge I just needed more time to grow into a manager role; I've got 4 years work experience altogether+3rd level degree.

    I know at a time like this there are hundrends of thousands on the live register....and I should be grateful that I have a job. I was just a little disappointed that she didn't think I had leadership ability.

    Am I being fed a line or am I over-estimating myself?

    Honestly, maybe you are qualified enough. But in the current economy i'm sure they can find someone more qualified dying for a job.

    Take the job as support co-ordinator. Gives you the experience etc...

    Maybe you'll get the next one!

    Pride is great to have etc... but if there are better applications it's just hard luck. And I guarantee there are in this economy. To many qualified experienced people lost jobs!

    wouldn't worry to much, she has acctually respected you by acknowledging your knowledge and by recomending you to interview for teh support role. Remember she has to make the best decision for the company not for you and smetimes these decisions dont suit everybody(been there loads of times). 4 years isn't an awful lot of experience to be expecting a management or coordinator role. Take it on the chin and hope to get the co ordinator role is my opinion. Without knowing what industry you're in, I would expect someone would need 5 - 10 yrs exp for such a role. Be patient, your time will come.

    Unfortunately thats how it goes sometimes. You just have to play the game and work the system as things fall. These kind of things are all about politics IMHO. See the support coordinaotr job as a chance to show them what you can do. just be sure to get credit for your own work. i always felt from my time in industry that even thou i worked hard it was those who made the most noise in meetings who got rewarded. so work hard, but also make sure they know that you are working hard

    Doesn't seem like a personal issue tbh. There's a lot of people out there in dire straits financially and unable to get any job. There's more to life than climbing the corporate ladder.
