Does anybody know how to sign up as installer of sky satellite systems? Can you set up as a private installer or do you have to work for a company?

To become ASA agent as far as i know you probably need to contact Sky themselves now maybe things have change lately wizard007 or some of the other Agents can tell you. Also to become a Aerial rigger/Dish fitter you could try your local tv shop or the 2 main contracors Sky use in Ireland which are Sierra communications or Finlay communications they do or used to do a 2 day crash course . You will need to have public liability insurance as well. Contact the newly formend www.isaa.tv for more info.

Yeah both of those might have work, especially at this time of year along with the local contractors.

It's alot easier to become a sub ASA than a direct ASA with Sky. You still look after everything from sale to install yourself but it is alot easier to get started and one company in particular takes these on all the time. You will be screened, for want of a better way of putting it, and will need to have public liability as Scaller said and also experience with installing all Skys boxes and different install senarios etc and troubleshooting. It's not at all as simple as it seems and no two installs are ever the same ( obviously ). You will also need to have the proper equipment from really good safety gear, a decent sat meter, the right ladders etc.

I think you might be better getting really extensive experience with a contractor before going out on your own. I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm but the last thing you want is to go at this full on and find that maybe you've got yourself in too deep too soon.

Thanks for the info lads. Im living in Killarney. Im just wondering about it because im first fixing a house at the moment and i have all the coaxes ran from where the dish will be and to all the rooms. Does the sky installer who comes along after to fit the dish and boxes get paid from sky for all the wiring even tho its done already

    After all that

Yes, no matter what state of play the wiring is at, you have to pay full install fee to Sky. The engineer will be the lucky one here.

    Fair play to you :)

    Booted,

    Why not contact ISAA.TV
You could be the first ISAA satellite installer in that area. If you meet there standard, you could have a number of benfits for future work,

    ISAA number,
    Good insurance cover,
    Paid for advertising,
    plus other benfits.

    Regards,

    Gerry
