RTÉ's Drivetime this evening: newly-appointed Bank directors making a fortune.

Is anybody listening to RTÉ Radio 1's Drivetime programme at the moment?

The RTÉ reporter Martina Fitzpatrick investigated the pay which all state-appointed "public interest" directors received since they have been appointed in the past year - as a result of this crisis, it should be made clear.

The directors of all banks are paid a basic, plus over €3,000 for each meeting which they attend. They also receive a whole plethora of bonuses and other financial incentives.

This makes me sick, particularly given that it was all agreed in the past year when the government was lecturing us about giving up money etc. I better stop for now.

Have to go, but you can listen to the Drivetime podcast here (started @ 18.10):

How much is the basic and the "bonuses and other financial incentives".

While each meeting might only be a few hours, days or even weeks may go into preparing for such meetings.

Exactly. I wouldnt want to attend an Anglo Irish board meeting unless I'd done my homework.

For three grand, I would attend any meeting, even if it was a KKK one & I was a black man.

I wouldn't want to invest in them if I hadn't (or indeed had) done mine; that didn't stop a certain Mr Lenihan, though!

Yes but would you rather no public interest directors? Given what has been done (which I dont agree with) I'd rather have strong characters with some backbone to stand up to the executives in there.

Alan Dukes is one of those "strong characters" who gets paid almost €100k for his "backbone". Jobs for the boys, once again.

How many meetings per year? If it's once per year then it's pretty much irrelevant, 5 times per week and it's a different story.
