Mondeo Estate or Kuga or Accord Estate ?

Someone I know is thinking of getting a biggish family car. 4 wheel drive is not necessary. Anyone have any opinions on the Mondeo estate versus Kuga ? The mondeo estate will be cheaper, more fuel efficient....but on a long journey which is nicer to drive. Would the Kuga be easier to park ? Mondeo residuals may be a worry. Other vehicles considered are Accord estate ( though pricey ) and Honda CRV, or s/h BMW 3-series estate. I told him to test drive them all before purchasing. Anyone lived with 2 or more of the above cars for a while and have any opinions ?

I'd have the Mondeo Estate over the Kuga and the Accord Estate over the Mondeo Estate.

The Mondeo though will probably be the roomiest

Those 2 estate cars you mentioned op are way bigger than the soft roaders. A Kuga is based on a Focus platform.

Rumours of a price drop in January for Kuga - should make it pretty good value, but I'd be inclined to stick with a good family estate car and I'd be inclined to go for a good used Accord Tourer

I have a new Mondeo Estate and it's massive in the boot. When you drop the seats down it's beyond belief how large it is. Handling , Drive and Fuel efficiency all the best in class I believe and it looks great with a few bells and whistles.
Accord is nice aswell, best looking front on any car at the moment. Avensis does look well and is well equipped but was a bit "meh" to sit in and drive..
That said the Mondeo is a real driving car. If you can the 2.0 Dsl is the better option.

The interior of the Kuga is a huge let down. Had a Titanium in early this year and it makes a Kia look like the maket leaders in interior plastics! Looks good but that's about all I can say for it. I posted the new prices for 2010 in Drummerboy08's bargain thread.

The Mondeo would be the biggest of the cars for load carrying, and is a pretty decent car to drive, but if it were me and the figures add up, I'd be going for the Honda.

Last month I had a new Accord Diesel Saloon overnight and was very, very impressed with the way it drove. Excelllent smooth engine, and the handling is a much better than the older model (less body lean).

I know its in the UK but the value on the X Sport over there is amazing. You cannot even by the Titanium X with sport pack here AFAIK.

BTW I picked the first one I found to give an example. Other lower prices probably out there.

£22K for a Mondeo is madness, that's BMW 520D/E-class money. A 2008 for £14K is a far more sensible bet.

I was looking at a 2009, same model but a 5 door hatch for £17,800.

They are out there. I was in a bit of a rush when I posted that.

The new skoda superb estate may also be worth a look if space is the priority, much nicer looking than the saloon too and probably the biggest estate on the market

its hideous...nicest looking estate out there imo at the moment is the C5
