Running cables

I am getting the hd box from sky and I want to run the cabling myself beforehand. I have an old aerial connection from back of tv to the attic. If I could run the new cable through this it would spare me a load of hassle. I was wondering had anyone any hints or tips. From the cable point of view, I know there are thinner cables are these any good. What is the max length of cable that can be from the dish to the box? Do those cables go through the conduit easy enough(there may be some bends in it). Can I tie up the old cable to the new one and pull it through. If anyone has had any experience of this it would be greatly appreciated

In order to get Sky HD you will need 2 cables of a minimum of RG6 grade, preferably CT100 OR equivalent such as WC100...

It is extremely difficult to get a cable up through a wall, unless its a bungalow or you are 100 % certain of the original run of the cable, they dont always go straight up.

Unless there is trunking which is large enought to accomodate the two cables then it may not be possible to replace the exisiting cable.

if there is only a small diameter conduit, you could use twin shotgun cable which is thinner than 2 x standard cable.

I have carried out the action of tieing up the new cable to the old one and pulling this up through the conduit into the loft. However I must say this was done in a bungalow and as previous threads was fairly difficult. Everything depends on how much room is in the space, the number of bends and if other cables such as electricity wiring is present. If you do decide to try this great care should be taken if electricity cabling is present. Also remember when you are pulling the new cable through with the old cable if they part before coming through you could be left with neither cable being able to complete the journey. Just be very careful.
