    Hi Guys,

For the 2nd time this week, my car has refused to start. Turn the key, the lights on the dash come on, then nothing, dead as a bell end(just beeps a couple of times). Had to jump start it the other day. Its a toyota celica(7th gen).

Would the problem be with the battery do you think? Probably need to get a new one?

Sounds very like the battery is dead alrite.
Have you any idea of the age of the battery,
also check the connections(earth and positives) on the battery.
If there good and the batterys a few years old, it'll need changing.
If you know any one who has a mulit-meter they can check out too.

    cheers mickie,

To be honest i'm not to up of troubleshooting such an issue. Any suggestions how I might do so?
I'm assuming the battery has been in it, since new, so its a 03.The battery does'nt look to be in the best shpae to be honest.

If I turn the the key to 'start' position,is there a way to tell if power is going to the battery?

Take it to a garage, they'll tell you straight off if you need one or not (more than likely do by the sounds of it).

If you buy the battery, they'll fit it inclusive.

Turn on the headlights and then try to start the car with someone watching at the front. If the headlights dim right down or go out then the battery is flat. That doesn't necessarily mean it's banjaxed -- might be the alternator is not charging properly. You could get a cheap multimeter from B&Q or Homebase or somewhere and check the battery voltage with the engine running. Should be around 14 volts if the alternator is OK. In that case the battery has had it. Anything less than 12 volts and the alternator is the problem.
