    Hi,

Im writing here basically because I feel I have no were else to turn to! I feel I have a problem with cocaine and I really need and want to sort it out! I first start using it when I was 19 and I use to have a great time in doing so. I started using it because the good nights I had with alchol just seemed to stop, and I suppose I really wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I use to go out and would have such a great time just by having a few pints or whatever.

As I have got older I have been doing more and more and I havent really been getting anything out of it (apart from the terrible side affects, like depression to name just one) and I really want to stop, but whem I am out having a few drinks I get this terrible urge to start doing some and start looking for some like a lunatic. I must say that I dont need coke to get through the day or anything like that but I always have this feeling that the night will be that little bit better if I had coke when in fact the opposite is true. And I do be doing things completely out of character when Im high as kite, things that I dont really like to be doing and saying all sorts, basically just been an ass and messy and I dont know who or what to turn to.

I cant go to any family members because they are totally against drugs, I cant go to the doctor because, well he is the family doctor the last 28 years or something like that and I wouldnt feel very comfortable in doing so and my friends that dont do drugs I dont think would understand and my friends that do do it would think im after just having a ruff session and come saturday night I will be all set to go again! Im not a great person to talk about my problems to anybody close to me, I feel as do Im showing weakness, silly I know but thats the way I feel.

Has anybody had any previous experience with anything like this and what did they do? Im just looking for some good advice,

    Thanks.

Change dr to one you can go to with all your medical issues.

I have always had a similar problem.
For example, when im sober i have no real desire or intention to take any hard drugs like cocaine or ecstasy, but if i have a few drinks i get this huge craving for them as i feel the alcohol is not enough. I would spend a lot of the time going around asking people and ringing people for some sort of drug mainly ecstasy. Even though if i do get it, it probably wont be that good anyway and ill just feel terrible for the next few days.

For me, and maybe it would apply to you, you wouldnt end up taking these drugs if you stopped drinking. I know that may sound like a lot to do as it's probably a normal thing for you, but if it's the drink that always leads to the drugs maybe you should try to stop it for a while and see how it goes.

Seems the root of both of your problems lies in alcohol and not really drugs, as you both said there is no craving for drugs whilst being sober, maybe cut out the alcohol for a while and see how that goes.

Even though he's your family doctor, he's still YOUR doctor upon your consultation and anything said in confidence is just that, confidence.

He has a legal obligation to keep shut, I don't know but maybe going to a doctor of 28 years will have a lot more sympathy for you and will do his best to point you in the right direction instead of some doctor you don't know that's looking for the next 50quid.

Firstly, you've come to the stage when you really want to kick the habit and get help for yourself - well done to you.

Going to NA is a good start as you'll meet other people in same situation and worse. You need professional help with kicking it, both from the addictive and the psychological point of view and associated behaviours.

If you're not comfortable with going to your family GP, then choose another that you're comfortable with.

However, your family GP will know you and your history, so that's a plus. It may be somewhat difficult to admit to a professional that is tied to your family, but they would have seen this happen plenty of times, so it's nothing to be ashamed about. Due to confidentiality they can't tell your family anything, not even in a non-professional capacity like while at the shops.

As for your friends - you'd be surprised how many of your friends have used or are using drugs (including alcohol) and would never admit it. Additionally, they more than likely know someone who is or has used drugs. It's not a taboo anymore.

Especially If you are an Adult, over 18 years of age, and your doctor discloses confidential medical information (your coke addiction) - it is a violation of the Hippocratic Oath. Its taken very seriously, and any doctor violating it can lose their license to practice medicine.

I really doubt you have to worry about your Family Doctor spilling the beans to the family. And if he does, he can put himself and his livelihood in serious jeopardy.

Have we really gotten to the point where a thread entitled "I have a problem with cocaine" doesn't simply involve the words "I'm taking it" ?

Any drugs will lose their high, even hard ones like cocaine. That's why the scum that sell them want to get you hooked, because you'll want more and more.

You're experiencing first-hand the damage that this can do, so take your life back, ditch the drugs, and put your experience to some use by visiting local schools and telling the kids there how much it screwed up your life.

As much as certain sections of society want to convince people that cocaine is "acceptable" and "doing no harm", that's simply not the case. And those selling it are the ones who put Dublin top of the murder league last week.....I wish people would bear this in mind before "going with the flow" in order to appear "cool".

Best of luck getting off this, OP; and consider it lesson learned and put it to good use.

People are always saying this on here. Don't you realise you can just go to any Doctor that has an open clinic? There are lots of walk in medical centres too.

Best of luck OP, you can beat it. At least you're not going to get physical withdrawls from it. Just go 1 weekend at a time, stay home and watch a few movies or play some video games if you can't handle the pub/club environment without it.

OP this is what I did when I decided to pack in that ****e. I simply stopped. If you´re not depending on it during the daytime and during weekdays just to function, then you CAN stop. It´s a case of taking each weekend at a time, giving the friends you take it with a wide berth for a while and give yourself a chance to feel the benefits from not touching it. Honestly, not feeling that horrible, hopeless sometimes suicidal feeling the next day and that frantic search for drugs at the end of the night that ruins everything else for you (and when you can´t get any...ugh! Night ruined.) more than makes up for it.

By the way, you think nobody knows you´re off your head...but they do. Coke heads are NOT attractive...you´re talking a load of crap and you´re talking too much crap, your eyes are popping out of your head and you look psychotic and a constant runny nose and seathing mouth is just hideous. Live and let live, if other people want to take them, that´s cool...but keep away from me. Coke heads are the most boring people alive and you´re too off your head to realise (I´m talking generally OP, not just you in particular).

This was enough of deterrant for me to stop for life. Maybe go out some night and don´t touch anything and do a bit of an anthropological study of your mates and observe how they´re acting. Not a pretty sight.

Good luck OP, you can do it and you´re better off.

Great post. Anyone I've ever met who does coke has insisted that they're not obnoxious or annoying, that people told them the next day they were in great form, had no idea they were on coke.....it's all BS. It's obvious from a mile away. OP you should consider seeing a doctor if you can't give it up on your own. You can go to any GP, it doesn't have to be your own.

    Hi,

There is a bigger problem with cocaine in the country than heroin, many people are entering rehab for it, the rutland centre is getting loads going in these days and i can well believe it i grew out of my drugs time about 8 years ago im 31 now i also grew out of the friends i had then, Op it sounds like you are surrounded by an environment where it is normalized,

i remember my mates saying it was nothing all the time but the standard of living was crap and there was no substance to life and connecting with myself and others. its good you are sick of it and would like more for yourself, it is hard to create a new environment but if you start to look at life differently it is easier, like its the simple things in life that really matter, a walk on the beach, engaging with real friends and family etc try and take some space to reconnect with yourself again and try not to beat yourself up about anything.

How is the rest of your life doing, are you happy in your job/family etc do you think you could stop and try and take some time out for yourself for a while,

    Wish you well XX
