    Hey all

I just got one of these today off a mate who '... came across it'. Its new and still in package. Anyone know what standard and gearing it is for? its quite small so I'm guessing its for a road bike, i looked on the interweb but tbh it gave some contradictory comments....

I vaguely remember working on one of these, it was actually on a mtb(I could have sworn it was a old MTB groupset?), its 7speed anyways.

There were both MTB and road variants. And a fishing rod for good measure. The latter is still made.

I have a vintage Scott MTB, circa 92. It has a Exage LX rear derailleaur - It is a 7 speed system. Think it was bottom mid-range when I bought it.

What do people think about putting the Exage on my new Giant Talon - it has a Shimano Alivio, which I think is the entry level changer. I didn't realise that derailleurs were 7 speed / 9 speed, so maybe leave well enough alone.

I wouldn't do it no, even if you can get it to work it is unlikely to work better than what is on the new bike.

This derailleur is on my Peugeot steel racing bike that I bought some 12 years ago. My Peugeot is a 7 speed, so i guess it is for a 7 speed! - (thebouldwhacker, if you would like to sell it I am very keen on purchasiing it as mine is worn and does not shift well at all - Thanks) regards Grahame / ruffhams (colchester)
