Friend wants a general build for xmas, he has a graphics card already (4870), just wants a PC around it for 500.

I have to admit I know v little about AMD motherboards coupled with the ram, would something like this setup be okay? He's limited on space so again I suggested the small sugo case.

    That should all work fine.
If there's anything i'd do it would be get a slightly slower quad and get a slightly better psu!

But that would be it. Emphasis on the "slightness" though.

    Will he be overclocking?

Thanks, there'll be no overclocking, I would have liked to spec him a lower quad or a tricore but hes pretty intent on a fast quad without spending too much money. Maybe I'll get him to go for a modular PSU higher wattage.. should be only 20 or 30 quid more. Just as long as the MB and ram are decent-ish and compatible then its good

Wouldn't bother with modular if i was you, it's just not necessary and usually adds a bit of money too. Not budget

If that's HWVS then you might be able to get away with the CX400 and get the X4-945e for a tenner more instead. As a sub-65W CPU it doesn't use that much juice... ;)
