I know banks get a lot of stick - and lets be honest - a lot deserve it at high management level.
However, in the last week one of my credit cards was scammed and I was charged for services totalling over €350 (it would have been more according to reports back but I was quick enough to spot the charges).
I contacted my bank and did the usual - cancelled the card.
Immediately thereafter my email and phone has not stopped by the parties involved (those that sold the goods to the scammer and the bank).
Both got their act together. The business refunded my money within 12 hours and the bank sent me out over night my new card.
    (Thats the short story version)

To the basic staff that man the helpline phones out there on the help desks I just want to say "Thank you".
You were good at your word, fast, great ongoing communication and even though it seems your bosses are passing the "crap" down from high above, ye still manage to do your job well.

..so "big thanks". Credit should be given to where it is due!

I'm with BOI and Halifax and I have never had a problem with their service, BOI do charge me quite a bit for it though.

I have to agree, their creditcard control team are fantastic also and I'm not saying other banks aren't as good but anytime theres a slight blip of abnormality on my card, aib are on the phone checking everything to ok. serious thumbs up from me

A bank appreciation thread, how refreshing :)

Thank you, BOI, for sending out my replacement ATM cards - and there's been about 100 - in a timely manner.

    +1

I don't check my statements, I realy should.
Have online banking but don't ever use or ever check my wages. Now that I think of it I don't read my payslips either. Just a habit I guess

Several fraudalent transactions on the credit card and AIB spotted them, got me to sign a declaration that I didn't know about them and got an refund that week.

The people over the phone were very helpful.
I'm glad they can flag these things, I wouldn't have noticed until months later

Staff in the bank are very helpful.
I'm sorry for them if they are taking abuse due to the sins of their executives :(

Best thing you can do biggins is to write a letter to the branch manager. With peoples names if you have them. This is how they will be rewarded and the likes. The week I resigned from my position at AIB I got 2 of these phone calls, my branch manager was over the moon and sad to let me go...

On the opposite side of this, I'd like to personally curse the BOI employee who spotted "fraud" on my credit card after I spent €400 on tickets to an event in the States, by the time I'd contacted them to ensure it was me who bought them my amazing seats were gone and I had to settle for ones 12 rows back from where i was, the knob

I'd like to thank the bin man who emptied my bin on Monday.

He may have been only a binman in some peoples eyes but to me he is the best binman in the world . Fair play to him .

    Thank you Simon.

So, you're thanking them for doing what they're paid to do? Me arse to that.

Any experience I've had of AIB staff has been totally inept.

I thanking the lesser acknowledged staff that were good at their word (rare these days), very honest about the current situation, did not just treat me like I was just another number and for all intensive purposes for me, went beyond that their job description entails.

That in any job deserves thanks.

Refreshing to see someone paying compliments for the efforts of others, when nearly all of us are all too quick to gripe and moan these days.

    Generalisation...

If somebody exceeds your expectations, doing more than what they are paid for, then why not tank them? This type of attitude is probably why you have such a bad experience, and I wouldn't blame them for doing it either.

I think if someone does a good job its nice to thank them for it. Even if it is their job.

So when should you thank someone? I say thanks to the bus driver when I get off the bus. I say thanks to the cashier in Tesco's when I get my change. They're only doing their job too, - should I not bother?

As for AIB I've had a few dealings with their online banking help desk and they've been sound.

AIB are on the ball in fairness. Couple of months back my buddy didn't have a credit card and wanted me to buy him a game on Steam.

I bought the game and he handed me the cash value. Literally one minute later I got a call from AIB asking did I use my card for that transaction. That's the kind of protection I want tbh.

We can be quick enough to give out when we are "hard" done by - why not say "thanks" for something when we are "good" done by? I don't see a problem with it.
...and maybe if we treated each other with a bit more respect, a little more often we might actually get some back too later?

I'm very grateful to those that have helped me out for the above reasons given.
I have no problem crediting those that do what they say they will do, are straight with me and just don't give me the attitude of fobbing me off.
    Its nice to be nice.

    Nice thread :)

I used to work in permanenttsb, and my manager came up to me one day and said that a customer had rung him to say that he'd gotten great service from me. Made all the difference, and I really appreciated the customer's call

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,178 ✭✭✭✭NothingMan

Where I work an official thank you letter goes a long way for an emplyee. I've gotten a couple over the years and really made me stand out to the higher ups, which led to 2 very large raises 2 years running (that and my willingness to take a shot in the mouth). Balanced out by pay freezes in the recession, but still if you feel someone has been particularly helpful or tried their absolute best then I think it's very nice to let their bosses know that too.

A person using I presume a false name, used my card to buy hosting services (and website addresses) from a company I have an account with for my own sites.
As I use some particular accounts a lot, the purchases were flashed to me within hours.
Equally as fast as the response and subsequent help I got back from very sincere and genuine people.
Its nice to see some still are able to do what they do despite the flak that is thrown widely at them in general.
I'm not saying "all" are all saints - but "all" are not all sinners too!
    ...thus my thanks to them.

It's great to see someone that's happy with a service provided to them and more so able to recognise the difference between (and appreciate) a job done and a job well done, there's too much doom and gloom around. Good on you Biggins.

    MOAR HAPPY THREADS PLOX! :D

I use my BOI mastercard for all sorts in all kinds of places and they've never called to check. Luckily enough I've never been scammed.

+1, one of the worst customer services in banking. I use them daily for personal and business banking and i'm currently seriously considering taking my business elsewhere due to how ****e they have had been of late.

I think they got thanks enough with the recent 5% increase they were awarded by the LRC while the rest of us are taking it up the ass.

Same here. Normally I give them a bell and say im on holiday but if I forgot and they notice an odd transaction they will most of the time ring me nearly straight away.
