Gibson are great, aren't they?

Not only are they disappointing most with their newer guitars, they're breaking the law, too.
Sources say the Nashville-based guitar manufacturer is being investigated for violating the Lacey Act, a key piece of environmental law, for importing endangered species of rosewood from Madagascar.

    I'd plant it. :pac:

Seriously though, foul play from Gibson. This sort of stuff is really not on at all.
    Hopefully justice is served.

Gibson, Pay for the name, not for the quality.

Seriously, the dear epiphone models (500-600 euro) are really close to most of the gibsons that cost 1000-2000 euro.

its the same with most famous brands.

i usually buy second hand because of that.

Fenders are way better! Gibson is just sad, metal... Not as versatile. I dont like Gibson. And they broke the law!

    metal?

I have a Gibson and it ain't too metal. Hell, their main endorsee was a jazz musician!

yeah, i wonder where this misconception came from. i'd never associate gibson with metal.... the furthest into heavy genres a gibson goes is usally rock.

Any time i think of them, i think jazz and blues.

Ibanez/Dean/ESP/Jackson are companies i associate with metal...

I don't think metal, but I don't think jazz/blues either. Sure, Les Paul was a big Jazz head, but Gibson is the go-to guitar for classic rock. People who describe all their guitar parts as 'riffs' *shudders*

I have 2, A Les Paul and an SG both 2001 models and honestly i would hold them up in terms of quality against anything. There may be bad ones out there for sure but a lot of good ones out there as-well. Same can be said for all brands, Try before you buy !!

fenders are better but imo aren't as versitile as a les paul, i don't like single coils though, thats just my taste, so all things considered screwed both and go for warmoth, custom guitar for 800-1500 (rougly) depending on spec

I think it's great that in an age of political correctness and legalities that Gibson give a big FU to all of it.
So what if they're displacing tribes, endangering tree species and selling second rate gear at extortionate prices, that's what rock n' roll is all about man. ;)

The single coil vs humbucker, and strat vs les paul should have it's own thread IMO. I'm sure it would provide endless pages of wonderful and interesting insight and debate. :)

disclaimer: I do own two Les Paul standards and love them, as well as a USA strta with single coils which I also love. Guess that makes me bipickupical or maybe a polypickuposopher....

I use rail pups in my strat.
Volume knob down, full on metal, loads of gain and warmth.
With the knob popped up, single coil. Nice bright twangy tone and you can find tonnes of different tones if you play around with levels and which pup you use.

    Never say fenders aren't versatile.
    They kick ass, so hard.

I think it's pretty cringey, and ultimately hypocritical, to say "I love Fender/Gibson/Ibanez/etc. guitars, X sucks". Up until now, I have only owned Fender and Squier guitars, and they suit me great, and right now, with my Jazzmaster, Telecaster and Squier 51, I think I've got all the bases almost covered, and I don't see the reason to get any more/different guitars (apart from maybe a hollow body of sorts (but then I'd be GASing for a Starcaster, so never mind :p).

To write off any brand is foolish.
