Windows 7 app compatibility question

at the windows 7 technical launch they showed several ways to launch custom apps and legacy apps. XP mode and app virtualization (running the app in xp mode without loading up the full xp VM)

however there was a third way of generating a "schim" (not sure if I got that right) that sits under the application and directs its resource requests to the correct memory address and sorts out access rights issues. Anyone know where I can find the app to do this? I got the impression it was out of the box but cant find it so maybe its an extra... googling windows 7 and schim doesnt do much and I cant remember the correct technical term for it.

    any ideas?
