It is only provisional. Until its finalised I wouldn't say there are any races missing, just late in :)

Yeah, I'd guessed there's probably one or two of note that are being discussed at this stage :)

Notice the Éirman X ones are in the calendar but the Éirman Ironman/HIM are omitted. - I hope Owen goes ahead with the Ironman/HIM as I want another outing on that motorway.

He may well go ahead with it but that doesn't mean that its on the calendar.

    +1
I may do the full distance this year just for the cycle:)

Must say, I am disappointed with this thread, was expecting to see Tunney sprawled across March in a one-piece.

yeah it seems very provisional. there's a few NS races not on it also

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭Highway_To_Hell

17th July will be busy, 6 triathlons and 1 Duathlon.

Pity Carrick on Suir and Killkenny are on the same day as I am sure they would be targeting the same pool of competitors that won't be travelling to Galway for the NS race.

Says on the site the Calender will be finalised on Nov 27th, thats only a week away. Clubs will need to pull the finger out and get applications sorted.

€150 for Kilkenny; €35 for Carrick; I know which one I'll be doing:)

At that price if I entered I might get a top ten finish maybe even a podium place :-) I wonder if Carrick would consider doing an olympic distance instead/as well as the sprint one.

I'm predicting this year alot of races won't even come close to filling.

On the contrary, never underestimate an obsession. I predict you will see a couple of p4s around!

I don't fancy swimming upstream in Carrick - the current is a wee bit strong (I did the downstream 750m this year in a new 'PB' of 8.30 minutes:p)

Yes, lots of P4s, but this year and last year saw races not filling completely
With more races, there is less demand and races will struggle.

See from the calendar there is a new duathlon series in scheduled for Jan, Feb, Mar in the Phoenix Park. Based on the (rather sparse) info here it would appear to be the same course as the Dublin Duathlon series, certainly the same distances anyhow.

Only down the road from me and entry on the day so might pop down for one or two of them. Weather depending mind, wouldn't fancy descending the Kyber Road with any sort of frost/ice on the ground!

Had missed that. Will miss the first two but would like to do a duathlon in the park after all these years.

It wasn't in the calendar when I checked a couple of days ago. Must be a late addition.

There's a 4 race series on during the Summer - you could always try one of those ;)

    From the TI Monntly bulletin:

"There are a tiny number of events who have not played ball and have withheld paperwork or ODL money. These races will not be sanctioned by Triathlon Ireland until they comply with regulations. They will not have approved safety plans or be insured by us and competitors may want to check the level of any alternative cover being offered. Your views on this matter are most welcome."

Could explain a few of the absences on the calendar.

(Edit: And before some people start crying and moaning that I am talking about their club races - I'm not. Just a general point of interest)

So what races are people aiming for this year? I am gonna go for the north Tipp sprint and Clogherhead as my A races. Looking forward to doing one of the wheelworx duathlons again (my first proper race last year).

Apart from those I'm thinking of Carrick-on Suir again, maybe tri-Athy and DCT to wrap up the year.

OMG, what kind of price is that? That's crazy money.

that has to be a typo no? or maybe a charity event?

Kilkenny very vague but it looks like they are trying to make an expereince out of it.

I wonder should some tris go down that route, I would think the OH would be interested in shelling out bigger money if it involved a nights stay and meal in hotel + maybe some type of tri party after with a band. I get a tri in with little quibble and she gets the benefit of a night out with even less quibble from me

Did North Tipp last year along with a few others I would like to do them all again this year and see if I improved but christ it all adds up.

Will do Brian Boru again, enjoyed that one and disappointed not to see a Loughrea one on again that was a good one too, otherwise I am going to start trying some olympic distance, so all new ones for me

at €150 for a local Tri, they would want to have lockers in transition and a steak dinner afterwards! Must be a typo...

North Tipp was a lovely event this year. I was down cheering on at the Brian Boru but might do it next summer. THAT run seems a bit nuts though

One of the make or break things for me for an event is local accomdation.

We stayed in a B&B for north Tipp, house was nothing fantastic but the lady of the house, and the man of the house, looked after us superbly. Big plus for me.

Ya I remember running around the corner after the bike at that and seeing this big hill in front of me. Tried to run it but didnt get very far, in fairness I wasnt too disheartened nearly everyone was walking it. Leveled out after 4ks and the downhill section then was crazy fast.

Free massages after was a nice touch too

Very true. After the disaster of a stay in the Pier Head Hotel in Mullaghmore this year, if I can't get a nice b&b next year I just won't do the race, even though I absolutely love it. It's not worth it when you get about three hours sleep and spend about five hours listening to the strains(and it was) of an absolutely rubbish country band (and I use the term band in the loosest possible sense) come up through the ceiling so loudly the furniture vibrates and then be told by the owner that you're a kill-joy because you're asking for the band to finish up at two am in the morning (they played till after three).

Emmm for me if an event is 150 euro and its not an IM distance event, I'm not doing it. Don't care what they offer "making an event of it" wise.

€150 euro for an "event of it" event

    or

€30 race entry, €40 BnB, €2 for post race 99, €28 for dinner, €50 for beer

I prefer self catering option myself :)

Ballina and Kenmare had free massages too this year. Top Class.

Personally, I'd like to see prices dropped a bit and get rid of t-shirts or any expensive goodies from the goody bag so that the costs reflect race entry and nothing else. Most people have enough t-shirts, etc at this stage - well a lot of guys I know feel this way anyway. From what I hear, Loughrea may be going down this route next year.
