Northern Ireland Diesels ?

My father is looking for a used diesel (e.g. Passat ) and is considering buying up North . I have read that diesels from the North should be avoided as diesel fraud is widespread there ( laundered fuel ) and as a result engines suffer damage and excessive wear.
My question : Is this a genuine risk or is it just 'propaganda' put about by Southern car dealers to discourage buyers from going north ?

    Any advice appreciated.

Mine's from the North, it's fine. Have you actually looked into pricing before you go? This seems like a silly question but there's still some great deals to be had this side of the border.

Where? Everything on carzone seems to be overpriced and out of sync with the current economy:(

That's your answer. I don't know anyone who uses carzone, so I can't make any sweeping comments. Stop bluddy using carzone Moe7. I found mine through local trader magazine, other friends and neighbours use donedeal.ie, Argus or buy & sell magazine.

I've said this before, some prices on carzone bear no relation to reality whatsoever.
