Tonight we had Reggie Corrigan doing some scrummaging work with us out in the club and I have to say the man is an absolute legend. While the rest of the fellas were warming up I was waiting around on the sideline due to injury and got to speak with beast for about 10 minutes, I couldn't believe my luck. He gave us some great tips on binding, especially for 2nd rows and provided some invaluable information about contact and positioning. It seems he is providing scrum clinics for clubs within the Leinster branch in order to better develop them and make them safer overall. Seems like an excellent move by the IRFU to me.

Good on him. I hope he's doing some close work with young Cian Healy. Peter Clohessy would be another addition to the 'scrum clinic'.

Good stuff. Elaborate and tell us some more.

Reggie Corrigan has showed that he's a good scrum coach IMO. He was with Ulster last year wasn't he? And their scrum and pack in general got better, and now Leinster are doing really well too.

I was at one of these clinics a few weeks ago in seapoint.
Pity it was pouring rain at the time so the session got cut a bit short.

  • I've seen Reggie working closely with the Leinster U20's and U19's this year. I would guess that he is also helping the Leinster senior squad, and would've worked with Healy on his way up the ranks in Leinster anyway.

Healy wasn't murdered in the scrum against Aus, IRELAND were murdered in the scrum, 8 men shove. Healy has shown he can scrummage with the best before when he has a go forward pack behind him. The front row against Aus had never played together before, had two players below full fitness and also had a debutant. If Aus were looking for a spot to gain an advantage, the scrum most certainly was it, and proved to be.

I wouldn't be too worried about Cian.

I WOULD be worried about the rest of the options, hopefully the IRFU is sending these specialist coaches all over the country, most of the scrum is based on technicque and timing, not strength, and a wise head like Reggie, who's already prroved that he can coach, and coach well, is exactly the kind of person we need doing this.

Les Kiss was sent to Connacht to help their defence.

    :pac:
