Well he did apologise in advance!!

Think this and the crashed A340 in Toronto are (currently) the only scrapped A340s

There has been a few more write off's and an exception.
Iberia's EC-JOH A340-600 in Quito. It went of the runway in bad weather.
    Sri Lankan's 4R-ADD A340-300 destroyed by terrorists.
Carribean Airlines 9Y-JIL (ex Virgin G-VSKY then D-AIEL Lufthansa Technik)a A340-300 is reported to have been scrapped but not due to damage. Would be 15 years old now.

Isn't the A340 excessively thirsty for it's size and range?

Forgot all about the Quito accident. Didn't know about the others.

Didn't realise the A340 was 15 years old. Knew the A330 was introduced in 1994,thought the A340 was a later development based on the A330. Just looked at wikipedia. Development was in tandem and deliveries started in 1993.

As an aside just like Airline Manager trhe A342 is significantly cheaper than the others!!!!!!

You're right, D-AIEL (MSN016) wasn't scrapped due to damage but it was parted out a couple of years ago. During its time at Virgin (I think 1997) it performed an emergency landing when the left main landing gear failed to extend. Fairly spectacular landing! It was repaired and put back into service.
    Sparks!

MSN010 was the first A340 to be scrapped or parted out, due to fire damage. It was an Air France machine I believe. (Google says F-GNIA)

The Sri Lankan attack swallowed up three A330/340s and an A320s also.
