    Largely meh!

I know the 360 has a year on the PS3 and the PS3 does have BluRay, which is great, but Microsoft are pulling miles ahead of Sony at the moment, especially in europe. They can rent movies & tv shows (recently (or soon to be) released Zune, not sure on the difference between that and the microsoft video marketplace or whatever) and they have SkyPlayer too! What does Sony Europe have to compete with that? Nothing so far! I hear we'll be able to rent videos in the new year...great ! Get the finger out Sony!

Well they have PlayTV for a start that let's you watch and record freeview stations. I'll be getting that as soon as we freeview launches here properly. The PS3 also has a web browser that I use to watch TV shows streamed on the internet (you can also use Facebook and Twitter on it as well if you are so inclined). I wish my 360 had a web browser (Internet Explorer 360 version anyone?). The PS3 has Vidzone that has a bucketload of music videos too. Wouldn't say either company is miles ahead of the other really. Wish Sony would get the video store here asap though and cross game chat too.

This never took off really and just looking at the list of channels that would be available, it's no great shakes...sure I have them all already!

I've tried using the web browser for streaming and it's not great at all, better off downloading and watching them through the PS.

Facebook and twitter on the PS? Frivolous addition really, I have a laptop which is much handier for those kind of things!

In terms of movies/videos/tv the xbox is definitely miles ahead in my opinion and I would consider myself a playstation fanboy!

Before christmas? That's cool...been waiting a long time. Not sure if I'll use it much, depends on the quality.

The idea of paying for a stream when I can torrent a TV episode is pretty useless for me.

did anyoe else notice the "join session" option for people playing MW2 on your friends list? since when could you do that?. it works perfectly too or at least did for the one game i joined.

They probably include us in the UK.

EDIT: Maybe not as they said play tv would only work in the UK and not Ireland when they released that!

I sometimes wish Sony would just differentiate itself from the 360 and try not to just add features just because Microsoft are adding them. Would anyone seriously choose a 360 over a PS3 because of Twitter/Facebook integration? or because it has a movie download service? I guess its no harm having the option of using it but id rather see the resources put into the PSN in terms of gaming content and network performance.

Call me old fashioned but gaming seemed to be a much happier place when a console was about games and not firmware and store updates. Nowadays its all fuel for fanboys, if Sony dont release a demo on time its the end of the world...oh well i guess im old! :D

I dunno, I think the sky player was a great addition to the xbox, coupled with a few exclusives that I wouldn't mind playing, it may be enough to tempt me to buy it...but I don't have the cash and barely play ps games at the moment, so I don't need another console!

I think the Twitter/Facebook integration has come about this year because Facebook have opened up their API (the Facebook programs) to allow people to integrate Facebook into their software. Whilst I may not use Twitter or Facebook that much, there are people out there who I'm sure will enjoy having it as a feature. I don't think it would be a selling point but it's when you combine all the functionality of a device together is when it becomes a deciding factor. Movie download services are very popular so I do think that they could be a selling point for one console over another.

I don't rent movies or tv shows now and have no intention on ever doing so. I also have a Sky HD box so the Sky Player adds nothing for me. If that's the edge Microsoft has then I really don't care.

You personally don't care, but many people do.

I don't rent movies/tv shows but, I'd really like to have the option. I've seen it working on the xbox and it's really well done. You just pick whatever you want to watch and you can pretty much play it instantly, even the hd movies because the servers are so fast.

If the sky player adds nothing for you, fancy letting me use it? I think it's great :D

Sky player is a joke i was hoping that it would offer an alternative to Chorus but its so expensive and has such poor channels.

If you have sky all ready you have to buy a multiroom subscription to get it on your xbox in which case just put the other box in your games room. If you dont have it it costs 18 euro (plus 4-7 euro for xboxlive gold) so that puts it in the 22-25 category and that doesnt even include the TV on demand which costs more !!! . My chorus costs 20 euro and has all the good channels.

The PS3 as others have said has a browser so i watch my TV online on the big screen.

Xbox music video thingy suck balls coz you have to download them and with pay! facebook is pretty much pointless aswell...

Why cant sony get the finger out and sort it? The 360 online service is top class but the PSN is catching up.... slowly but surely. Come on - voice chat!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭george67

You can't record and play games at the same time so it doesn't replace sky box for recording while i'm playing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,532 ✭✭✭WolfForager

Very dissapointed it that voice chat isn't in FW 3.10. Is strongly rumoured to be in the works and was expecting it in the next update :/

360 has far better features and is an overall better online platform imo. However, that is only really true for gold members subscribers....It would be nice to have an option for an improved subscription service. However if I have to start paying a yearly fee to microsoft so I can play games online, then I am happy being stuck with PSN.

I would NEVER pay to play online. I purchase my game, I expect to play it. It's not as if Sony or the developer are providing dedicated servers for the most part. I just don't see the justification for paying for online gaming.

It seems the update will also add the TV icon to the XMB for those who dont already have it with Play TV. Under the TV icon will be channels with catch up services like RTEs player but of course theres no mention of Ireland and RTE or TV3 yet. Hopefully its added soon.

Just installed the update. The major features listed were the new format for picture folders, and the addition of the Polish language.

Do you need to do anything on the Facebook side of things for your PS3 to post updates? I've turned it on on the PS3 but after getting about 6 or 7 trophies in MW2, nothing has been added to Facebook.

On the USB make a folder "PS3", in that folder make "UPDATE" then put your update file into the latter.

BTW anyone else getting trophy sync error again after update? I thought they had fixed that...

    Goodman!!!!
I'm cursing the damn thing trying to get a game of MW2 in while I have 40 mins in the house to myself, it took 10 mins to download 1% on the PS3 itself. DL'd it from the PS website in 5 mins but there is no mention of it on the Sony website about the folders required. :D
