Where does he begin? He's looking for some sort of scholarship. He's studying computer science at the moment in Uganda. Let's just say he wants to study in NUI Galway. How does he go about applying for a place? How do africans generally get grants etc to study abroad?

Not from the EU so he'll be paying fees.
Realy for grants, shouldn't be checking what's on offer in Uganda to allow people to study abroad. That's probably the first step

    Good info here:
    http://www.icosirl.ie/eng/student_information/funding_fees_and_grants
It confirms that NUI Galway will charge fees so your friend needs to contact them directly and ask how much are fees for each course.

There is some sort of grant scheme but only for those countries that Ireland and the Dept of Foreign Affairs have a relationship with
ICOS plays a role in managing the Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme for the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland, but is not a funding body itself. The Irish Aid Fellowships awarded by the Department of Foreign Affairs - www.dfa.ie - are targeted at the countries in which Ireland has established development cooperation programmes: Ethiopia, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Timor Leste, Vietnam and the Palestinian Territories. » More on eligibility

Contact the Department of Education too for information on grants.

I see it right between Tanzania and Zambia.

He should pose as a wealthy business man who has millions of euros which is tied up in a bank in his country and can only be released if someone sends a small amount to him to pay for the international transfer. he should then claim that he will split the money with whoever dose this e-mail thousands of people all over the word. That should generate enough money for his fees.

Don't be silly - Uganda is between Kenya and the Congo. It doesn't even share a border with Zambia. ;)

Well, considering he's African, he will have folks here falling over themselves to help
him. Whatever it costs, you can be sure he won't be paying!

Just curious, how does someone in Uganda decide that NUIG is the place to go for computer science?

P.S. before I give you the information, can you confirm whether or not his name is Idi?

    Thanks

Especially a mod in the boxing forum - the last Black boxers who came here just got people throwing digs at them.

Eh? How can a Mod get away with saying something like this???

And to whoever said how Ugandans know about NUIG...I'm quite sure they have the technological innovation that is the internet over there.
And sure they most likely have much faster broadband speeds then this 3rd world country!

If Uganda is part of the Commonwealth (?) it could help him alot in terms of getting a student visa with help from the British embassy....a friend of mine did something familar.

(Edit...Ah, just saw walshB was banned...I hope he's stripped of his Mod status)

That was me - I didn't ask how someone from Uganda knows of NUIG, I asked how someone from Uganda would decide NUIG was the place to study computer science. I didn't think of Uganda, Zaire, French Equatorial Adisabbaba or Mongolia when deciding to do a Masters. I was just curious as to how Galway springs to the mind of a student in Uganda.

There are no sinister motives, it was simply a question for curiosities sake.
