How many of you enjoy your job?

Now I know a lot of us are lucky to even have a job at the moment and I’d like to point out I’m very happy that I have one but I wouldn’t go as far as to say I enjoy my job and don’t think I ever have.

I’m always envious of people who say they really enjoy their job. Though I do look at them with some skepticism as I just can’t relate what their saying to any job experience I have ever had. In every job I have had I have always looked forward to the end of the day or the weekend when I had free time do whatever I wanted.

I’ve worked in places where I really liked the people I worked with and have had fun on occasions in work but still wouldnt say I enjoy my job/

I guess if I was working for myself and knew that every bit of hard work I did was contributing to my wealth I might enjoy it more but as it is if I don’t. Even then I think it would be more about what I could then do with the money.

Should we expect to enjoy our work or just enjoy the money we get from working?

It's bad enough having to work in general, but right now it sucks even more than usual.

    I don't have one

Get a degree they said, you will walk into any number of jobs......I could have

I travelled and worked in Korea instead.

    Then I came back

Get a masters they said, you will walk into any number of jobs.......so I got it and I can rarely get a letter of rejection.

Time to pack up and head of again

I love my job, I get to film lots of interesting & glamourous events.

On the other hand being self-employed can be VERY stressful when you don't know if/when your next job will be :(.

Left Ireland on the 7th of Augsust. I've been tearing away for a company that's in a bit of a mess buy finding their way and laughing my balls off the entire time. Seriously having the best laugh I've had in years.

The people that you work with make the job.

i do actually love my job. intend going back to college in a couple years (not done much education since the LC), but im learning heaps, the work's rarely all that difficult, though still requires a lot of thinking, and the people i work with and the clients we work for all just make it so much more worthwhile.

im still stoked when the weekend comes along, but ill often stay in late, and my boss will always let me know im appreciated, which goes a long way, imo.

Love what I do. Really get a buzz from it. And I get to work with a great bunch of people.

im so grateful that i love my job, there is nothing else i would rather be.

of course, its not all perfect, there are somethings i hate, like dealing with the dinosaur that is the hse admin and funding issues, but teh basic job itself is great.

Nope. I can't take my job for much longer.

I'm saving my money and I'm leaving the rat race/recession behind me next year to travel.

I enjoy my job a lot and am really enjoying my masters at the moment, even the essays!

Yea, gotta say im in the 'not loving my job soo much' mood.
Had a job I loved but circumstances changed and switched jobs. Have to say this whole recession thing has made me hate my job more... however! as the line goes: "Im lucky to have one" - dont forget that cos thats important...

I really love it actually. Though I work like a slave (a guaranteed 9-6, and I freelance on top of that, meaning that I only get to bed at 02:00 /3:00 at least two nights a week) I feel I'm doing something worthwhile, and get some satisfaction out of doing hours that would make other people goggle-eyed.
It also means I get decent money to write for a living. Which is all I wanted from life 5 years ago.

Says it all. The job itself could be good or bad, but the people make it enjoyable.

I even find those sunday nites when i can't sleep and know i'm gonna be shattered the whole next day more enjoyable than what awaits.

I enjoy it when I feel like I'm doing well at it.. Unfortunately due to bastard of a heap of sh1t of a software system I'm using that is not always the case.. I hate technology.. It is the source of much of the distress in my life.. I wish I was a tree.

i love my job right now and wouldnt chanGe it for everything, i get to see places all over the world and have "friends" in every corner because of it!

i am enjoying every moment cos i know, it could all end one day very soon and thats the reality......fingers crossed though that it is solid enough unless a disaster of major proportions happens.

the majority who have a job now, should be happy, as we should all realise how lucky we are....boy have attitudes changed in the space of about 18 months!

Said I'd stick this job 6 months - now I'm here 2+ years. Overall I don't like it but it pays the bills and I'm glad to have one these days.

    reading boards and drinking tea

ah the life :D oh **** i better do some work or the boss (mr MeMyselfI) wont be happy when he gets the bills

I said yes, but it's not necessarily the work I enjoy. If you work with good people it's a much better experience. Been working in the same place for 3.5 years now and recently am working on different sites and most of the people are cool so i'm not hating it.

Plus the structure of a 9-5:30 is handy to plan your life around. Have a great social life too so it's a great balance.

I've two part-time jobs; one is great the other sucks a big one.

The good job involves sitting in a pool hall and doing whatever the hell I want for the 3 hour shift. Best job I've ever had.

Two things came to mind when reading your post:

    1. Turning water into a "win" is tough, much tougher than turning it into say wine or something

    2. A Jebus? How many Jebus' do you think there are?

    :D:D:D

The world is black and white don't let anyone tell you different.

I am surprised that I appear to be in the minority here by saying I don't enjoy my job. Its a nice surprise but still a surprise. Everyone I ever ask always seems to not like there job but just gets on with it.

Have I mentioned that I'm surprised?

I strongly dislike my job. I hate that my time off goes by so quickly but when I'm in work, time freezes. Saying that, I have left this job to try out other jobs and found them even more monotonous so I came back.

Most of the time. I can use my brain; it's a hassle-free environment and it's flexible.

That said, there is no job in the world that I wouldn't give up if I could just pocket the money for not working.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭BobTheBeat

My current job is very meh. Not even sure if Im in the industry I want to be in. But I need some security right now (after buying a house), so safe and steady is the key.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,259 ✭✭✭Rowley Birkin QC

I enjoy my work at the moment, working in a bar in Amsterdam. It's actually extremely relaxing after the stress of doing my dissertation and then looking for work back in Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 746 ✭✭✭Vim Fuego

I'm not a big fan of what I do. The job itself is boring, most of the people are terrible but I get paid well. Been thinking about making a move into something completely different for less or possibly no money but that's not as easy to do as it used to.

I think the main problem is that the big R has me feeling trapped in my current job, despite the positives.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,555 ✭✭✭Gillington

Had a couple of jobs,in one I was there for about 10 years and it was only the people that made me stay that long the jobs itself was pants.

Love the job I'm in, was almost made for me :) guess i'm lucky, spent years in a job I wasn't very keen on fighting frustration etc, was made redundant in January and found this new job, it's challenging, exciting and rewarding. I'm pretty happy :D

I don't particularly enjoy my job (there's only so many times you can explain to people that the monitor isn't the computer, and that power lead is the one with the plug on it, before it gets old),

but a least I have one (for now), so I can't complain, I feel sorry for those that don't. hopefully things will get better sooner rather than later

I used to like my job when i was new and still learning new things. Been a bit stale and boring for the last while and i'm getting fairly bored at this stage. Will probably start looking for something new after christmas.

I've just started somewhere again and not really enjoying it that much. The old job was brilliant, tough but everyone got on fairly well.
This new place scares me. That's whay in play the lotto. I reckon i'm due a turn soon
