    It's about a third I think.

-One third is made up of semester 1 exams
-One third is made up of semester 2 exams
-The last third is made up of continuous assessment/tutorial attendence etc

I'm first year arts aswell btw :)

I am a little confused as I heard somewhere that 1st year doesn't matter as long as you pass your exams. Is this right?
    Thanks

Hi, First Year results don't actually count towards your final overall degree mark, but they will appear on any overall exam transcript you receive. Second Year results and Final Year results both count towards your overall degree classification, but only if your Second Year results are better than your Final Year ones. Here's an example

    John Smith
    2BA English 60
    3BA English 66
Overall Degree Result in Eng 66 (If Final Year results are higher than Second Year, Second Year doesn't count)

    2BA Soc n Pol 66
    3BA Soc n Pol 60
Overall Degree Result in Soc n Pol 63

It seems weird, but if your Final Year result isn't as high as your Second Year result then you get credit for this by splitting the difference for your BA result in the subject (ie Final Year result would still be 60, but your overall degree result for the subject would be 60+66/2= 63)
You then get an overall result for your degree, which in this case would be a 2.1 of 64.5 (Average of Overall Degree Results in both subjects).
This result never appears on your scroll, though.
Seems weird, but it's really a great way of rewarding your effort, and giving you the maximum benefit from your exam performance.
