Sorry about that Mick. It's on in D4 Hotels, Ballsbridge (Formly Jurys).

The lads have organised a room rate at €49 per night (but its limited availability). Simply phone hotel reservations on (00353) 1 668 4468 to book now and ask for the poker rate.

Did you make a mistake with the Main Event buy-in of €500? It was €1,500 in 2009.

At 500 quid I'll probably take a shot at this myself, looks quality. I think the lower price will actually see a really big field, definitely well worth playing.

Thanks for putting this up JP.

Before I went into hospital 3 weeks ago I did get this page up:

    http://www.greenjokerpoker.com/deepstack2010.php

There is a bit more info incuding the new structure which has 90 min levels on the final day. I did expect to be out after only a few days to start promoting this - best laid plans etc and I am still here 3 weeks later!

The first seat only satellite is on GJP on 29th Nov at 7.30pm. It is a €25+€2.50 rebuy.

There are €5+€0.5 freezeout feeders every day at 8pm. These have freeroll feeders three times daily.

Network Wide sats start soon also with full hotel & ex packages.

I'll be back online and posting more regularly on boards next week hopefully. In the mean time ask any questions but the answers may be a little slower answered than normal.

This should get some decent numbers with the reduced buy in, are any of the side events posted above omaha tourneys?

Hope the health is well on the mend Mike.

This all looks good, but surely you can make one of the side events an omaha game? They've been pretty popular at previous festivals.

Will be hoping to play the main event after missing out on last years.

    Hi Dom,

Sorry about the delay with this.

I just spoke to Brian and he said that Mike will be posting up the blind structure later today.

I will be meeting with the lads next Thursday and will find out all other details i.e. cash rake and post them here on Thursday night.

You could just lodge some cash into your GJP acc for the seat only ones :)

Always loved playing this tournament but must say I'm very disappointed to see the drop in the buyin down to €500.
2 years ago in Drogheda it attracted some top class pros from across Europe, I guess it will now attract pub players from across Dublin.

I guess it's a necessity ,opposed to what Mike and the lads would actually prefer.

Recession is the main reason. I played it this year too, it was a great tournament but I reluctantly wasn't going to be playing it in Feb 2010. Now that it's affordable I will be playing so I welcome the reduction in the buy in.

I also don't see why you would care if top class pros turn up. Surely it's better if they don't. I would prefer to be playing against a whole load of donkeys, especially in such a deepstacked event.

couldn't agree more..i'd rather play against the value than be the value, grinding and playing 2nd fiddle to some big ego..game selection ftw :P! there's enough big buy-in tournie's IPC IO etc give the little man a chance

Judging by the response so far €550 is a the right price. We have had loads of enquiries and registrations already. Way ahead of the last two years.

I think what heehaws was saying is that the quality of the field will be diminished and maybe the man likes a challenge in playing good players.

A 500 euro buy in whilst great for casual players would not whet the appetite of top pros in a deep structured event.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,163 ✭✭✭Slash/ED

Why would you see a weaker field, better chances of cashing and a bigger return on investment as a bad thing?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 485 ✭✭HeeHawsCantona

    Something like that puppy.
Mike will know what I mean, he had great foresight with this tournament being the premier structure in Europe, but the reduction to 500euro and I'm sure numerous sats around the pubs of Dublin with JP's tournaments doesn't fall into the original concept.
If big numbers is your measure of success then so be it but I thought the original concept of the tournament envisaged something more. On a personal note I wouldn't bother my bollox grinding thru a field for 3 days to win circa 20k should i be lucky enough to win. I think the 1500 buyin was perfect and dont know why there had to be a drop in ambition for this great tournament.

So what your saying Ciaran is you would rather pay 1500 to play a 150 runner tournament, sitting down with such poker luminaries as Simon Trumper, a few scandies and that strange little chap from blonde poker as opposed to playing a 300/400 runner 500 buy on event against a field of pub players and the cream of Irish poker like myself and Parky ect.

I'll dye my hair blonde and start quoting pot odds and using words like equity and implied odds if that'll make you feel better. :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 485 ✭✭HeeHawsCantona

    :) Yes Richie.

If you google the European Deepstack you will find Mikes quotes about his concept behind the tournament. Its my favourite tournament on the circuit so I'm sorry if I'm a little passionate about it. I couldn't care less if the buyin was dropped for any other tournament, I personnally believe the Irish Open should be 1500 max, but I did think this tournament had the potential to be a little special.

PS what wrong with 150 runners? I think this would represent success.

Whilst you are right about the original concept we do have to move with the times. If you look at the player list from the second event compared to the first it was very noticeable that we had less of the top pro's from Europe at the second one.

The reason for this is that the buy in at €1500 was too small! They all enjoyed the first event as a one off but they simply cannot take the time out of their schedule for what is a comparitively small event.

We will always get some of the well known players across and we still expect a few this year. However I think there is no problem making this tournament accessable to the masses. The way the response has been going this year so far we could have the biggest field in Europe next year.
