I am travelling with my wife and 2 children (13 and 7)to Barcelona at the end of January next year. Can anyone give some advice on where would be a good place to stay? Travelling with aer lingus and I would like to stay fairly central. Will be there for 4 nights and would like to try and keep it close to 400 euro. Would like some hotel links if you have them:D

Hi there, i stayed at hotel lleo a few years back which was pretty good three star hotel. It was a two minute walk to the top of Las Ramblas. Also in that area were Hotel Jazz which looked pretty cool, Hotel Inglaterra and Hotel Gravina were just alongside it. They are quite close to placa Universitat and Placa de Catalunya from what i can remember. If i were going back i'd probably go for Hotel Jazz or Inglaterra. There are really central and you may get a good deal for January and probably a bit cheaper than staying on the ramblas itself. Hotels are quite expensive in barca from what i could remember. Enjoy, barca is a great city.

PS. Don't forget to go to the market on las Ramblas for some breakfast, brunch or lunch.:)

Hi I went to Barca with my girlfriend 2 years ago & stayed in the Silken Ramblas Hotel, very happy with it, location & price were excellent at the time. We were there in January also. Hotel is just 50 m off Las ramblas down a side street at the Plaza de Cataluna end which is as central in Barca as you'll get. A word of advice though beware of pick pockets, rampant there in the last year, not exaggerating the majority of people i know who have been there in the past year (approx 8-9 people) were all victims and attempts also made on the lucky friends who were with them who noticed what was happening....particularly on the metro when your all crammed together but these people are pros, property such as phones and wallets taken from front pockets unnoticed out on the street when youd think they would be safe there......dont mean to spoil your holiday.....its a wonderful city.....just need to be careful.....Enjoy

Thanks for the advice. Have temporarily booked into Best Western near airport. A bit too far out so I'll check your suggestions out and get something a bit nearer to the sites ;)
