NAT 1 with Netopia

I realise this has been discussed a lot in these forums but I've read every thread and Googled it to death but can't solve this problem.

    Here's the situation:

I'm a BT customer, using a Netopia 3347NWG, that has Eircom's software on it, so no DMZ.

Eircom's software does not support UPnP with the PS3, so port forwarding/NAT 2 is unavailable. (I've tried opening all the ports and applying the static address to the PS3 etc. before, but to no avail).

I have the PPPoE username and password from BT, but whenever I try to connect with it on the PS3 it fails to obtain an IP address.

BT suggest that this is because the router is already configured over PPPoE, so there should be no need for that. In other words, that it's automatically PPPoE. But I get NAT3 so I don't think this is the case.

I can't think of anything else to try. I'm aware those routers aren't particularly great, but for the time being I'm stuck with it. So it would be great if someone could help.

    Cheers for reading.

google the youtube videos on this..
Basically you need to change some settings in the netopia box to allow the PS3 to do the PPPoE itself.
I can't remember exactly what - but it's been so well documented.

I can't find anything that explains how to configure the Netopia router to enable the PS3 to do the PPPoE itself. Maybe the videos have been removed from Youtube.

might have gotten it wrong - I don't have one of these, so can't comment...

    Here iss a video

basically it seems you do just set it up on the PS3.
Did read another post that latest firmware has a setting for PS3 - but not sure if it works.

    EDIT:
Forgot to add - almost everyone I know who has these loses the NAT1 every so often. The only real fix is to replace the router. It can take several tries to get the damn thing to work - soz.

    Thanks for the reply.

Amazingly I just got it to NAT 1. This is literally after days of trying. I'm not sure what made it work.

I updated the firmware again, the one I had was new though, I didn't get the newest before because it was still buggy. It had a custom service for PSN to open the ports but still NAT 3. (I think because Eircom don't support UPnP with PS3)

Then tried the PPPoE route again, same username, same password, set the DNS manually - and MTU to 1492. For the first time ever I got an IP! But no internet connection.

So I set the DNS to automatic and voila. It connected.

I can't identify what's different, what enabled it to connect. But I'd guess it was the firmware update. But while I'm using 7.8.0r7 now I was using a very recent version before, so I don't know.

    I'm just happy it's finally NAT 1! :)
