    Hi,

sky say that I need my phone line activated in order to get sky+.

Eircom want 121 euro to activate the line?

is there a way around this?

If it is a single box installation then there is no phone line needed. A live land line is needed in the case of multiple boxes only. If you shop around / go to a local independent installer, you'll find alot of them have dropped the non land line fee ( 37.50 ) as part of the current offers with Sky.

You only need a phone line if you are getting multiroom.

If you are not getting multiroom, then you don't need a phone line, but you will have to pay Sky an extra €30+.

This is a one off charge and cheaper then paying Eircom €121 + €25 per month for a phone line.

If you have a nice neighbour and a few meters of phone cable you might be able to avoid that fee.

It was 37.50 when I got Sky+ in last year,in hindsight I shouldn't have paid it at all cos when they installer guy came he asked my where my phone line was and I said I had paid the extra 37.50 cos I didn't have one,he just shrugged his shoulders and said fair enough.

You do have to pay the €37.50 for a non phoneline activation as the installer will be asked if it is a non phoneline connection and will be billed the this fee as a result.

Perfectly correct normally. BUT at the moment alot of ASA's are not charging it. Sky are not charging it as part of all their current offers since Nov 1st up untill untill Dec 28th.

    Thanks guys,

I reckon I'll put through the order and see if the guy says anything when he comes to install it.

hi hope this isn't a stupid question, but I wouldnt know the best way around sky or private installers

I contacted sky last tuesday enquiring about sky+ dont want hd have old tv and will wait another couple of years
I was told €249 total for box and installation,so I told her forget it too costly for me,
Just wodering before I drop this idea completely what is the best total price available is and from where or how to go about getting it ,also living in cork and have no phoneline,I'm presuming contacting sky themselves was a bad call as all she was interested was in trying to flog me a hd+ box

    any help greatly appreciated,
    sound.

That's what I suggested to a friend of mine. The installer probably has the phone line in the back of his van as well.

Call some independent installers and get a quote from them or visit them in a shopping centre for a quote.

You don't mention if you are a new customer or an existing customer, from the price quoted I assume you are an existing customer and that is why it is so expensive.

The deals for existing customers do look awful this month for Sky+.

I got multi room in and needed to connect both boxes to the phone line, the installer did it for me, all free! All i had to do was buy a 3way adaptor!
