DTT only from Llanddona and Arfon after Wednesday

Analogue tv closes down completely from Llanddona and Arfon on Wednesday. Viewers in SE Ireland have already successfully received DTT from Welsh transmitters such as Preseli and Arfon (BBC PSB1 services). Those who can receive analogue TV off air from LLanddona and Arfon will need either a DTT STB or a television with a digital tuner built in.
    You have several equipment choices:

    a) Buy a Freeview only DTT box (MPEG2 only). These are very cheap

    b) Buy an MPEG4 DTT box which can be used for these transmissions AND Irish DTT test transmissions

    c) Buy a digital television: preferably MPEG4 to receive Freeview AND Irish DTT

If you already have a Freeview box or integrated Freeview digital TV you need to retune it on Wednesday.

    The new DTT frequencies are:

    Llanddona: 57, 60 both at 20kW, 43, 46, 50 all at 10kW

    Arfon: 41+, 44 at 2kW

All Welsh DTT transmitters will carry BBC1, BBC2, HTV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 after Wednesday as well as a range of other TV and radio services.

Next year Llanddona and Arfon will broadcast HDTV (BBC, ITV, S4C, Five) on additional frequencies which are currently powered down. A new Freeview HD box is needed for these free-to-air- HDTV services which is backwards compatible with Freeview and, probably, Irish DTT.

Note that if you are still receiving analogue TV off-air from Wales after Wednesday your signal is originating from the Blaen-Plwyf transmitter which is converting to high power digital transmissions from 24 February 2010.
