The Hills, your take on it (and we have a poll)

So, this is your oppertunity to voice your opinion on the show...good or bad with a nice poll to register your support or disgust.

Now in it's fifth season, this "reality" tv show from MTV launched the careers of several of it's cast members. It has it's haters and detractors but also has a fanbase making it MTV's top rated and watched show.....is it a guilty pleasure?

But what do you think of it?

I hate it not for the programme itself as it is not something I would ever turn on (I don't have MTV UK thankfully) but it's the people at work who go on about it incessantly.

i pared back my sky packages recently, including the music channels, and the wife nagged and nagged and NAGGED at me until i got them back, just for the Hills.

Personally I can't stand it.. It all just seems so.... staged

Never really watched, from hearing about it I knew it would just make me puke. Overall I would rarely watch an MTV show. Every time I do watch one I just hate it's fakeness. They had some pakour thing recently which was just awful "look how cool we are" nonsense.

Never watched it apart from the odd 10 second viewing while flickin the channels...but from what I've seen, I don't like.

I hate it. I absolutely fucking hate it. Watching a few minutes of this show makes me so angry. It's everything that wrong with young people. MTV have corrupted allot of my generation. They can't watch their hands of this. Shame on the rich idiots for being in the show. Shame on MTV for making it. Shame on the people who watch it.

My sentiments exactly. And I hope that evrey adult who every saw that programme thinks this and that every teenager at least half-believes that the spoilt brat rich kids in the programme are detestable to the core.

People just don't get it. I watch the Wire, Curb, Mad Men etc. All that critical acclaimed stuff. Spencer Pratt is a better villain than anything I've seen on TV

It's also FTA on E4 although maybe they aren't up to date - like it would matter!

Still, for a program made by combining meaningless conversations, random street scenes from LA and clips from old A-Team episodes, it's become extremely popular ...:D

Though I always thought it could be improved by combining it with near namesake "The Hills Have Eyes" : We see the real-life adventures of Lauren, a mutant flesh-eating cannibal as she interns at Teen Vogue...

Yeah, but i just laugh at Spencer....he's an idiot, you can't take him seriously. I laughed last week when he went for a vasectomy and ran out almost crying :-)

Well i too weep for anyone who holds these people up as role models, i sure don't. As you say they are everything wrong with society and reality tv...maybe thats the point?

To show just how shallow, vapid and self absorbed they are....to laugh at them and think, glad i'm not like that.

I've only watched it once or twice at a friends..I would never willingly watch that tripe.Its not even entertaining the few times I've seen it they were siting around in 'work' barely saying anything to each other, and the things they did say were stupid..but its on mtv so what can you expect.

I'm never going to say it's good tv, it's even insulting to say it's bad tv....but, i do watch it. Spencer is just the biggest dufus on the planet, the guy has the cringe factor turn up to ten....but he does make me laugh.

Some of the stuff he says is just funny, as in you laugh at him. I view the show in terms of mindless entertainment, it's not such a bad way to spend 20 mins, without taking your clothes off.

Well you have you're own reasons for watching the show. At least you can see them for what they are. Fair enough. But if nobody was watching they'd have no influence, no profile, no fans.

The plastic surgery on it is quite frankly disgusting. All these women are in there early twenties and their faces and bodies have changed beyond recognition.
Its worrying that so many young people watch this show and it is just incredibly superficial and shallow.

You only have to look at Heidi, such a naturally pretty girl....the difference in her is shocking!
It's sad really, i'll say one thing for LC....she kept it real.

I hate the show but the wife loved it. But she's stopped watching it since yer one Lauren left. According to the wife Lauren said the producers were scripting everything and setting up scenarios which made it NOT reality tv. She calls it the speidi show now!:D

I thought the latest series would be Speidi-centric.....but Kristin has stolen the show, tis about her and her "love" interests....that muppet Brody Jenner (the guy who's shagged half of LA) sadly is getting airtime.

Yeah and Spencer's sister, cant remember her name, has evidently had a nose job and her lips inflated. Audrina's chest has increased massively since the first series.
It used to be kinda good the early series with Lauren and Heidi but now its just horribly fake.

The sad part is that a lot of young people want to be like these people and are slowly starting to impersonate them.

MTV stopped showing anything worthwhile years ago. Now it's a show for idiots. Music television my testicles!

Their MTV HD channel is all music bar the kiddie stuff in the mornings. It can be quite good. Some good concerts.
