I am correct to be disappointed - what do you think? I have the Vodafone Gigabit installed about a month now and the speeds are actually getting worse!!IMG_0169.PNG

Your iPad cannot hope to utilise a gig connection.

Test with a computer, wired in.

PS: Giving out your GPS co-ordinates, if accurate, to the public net isnt usually considered safe.

As ED E pointed out: you probably made every single mistake one could make running a speedtest:

    - your iPad will never utilize the bandwidth, no matter how modern it is.
    - doing the test over wifi, you will never get a good result.
    - how far are you from the router ? with those ping times and speeds you have to be a few rooms away .... makes no sense otherwise.

Any ISP, doesn't matter which, will only accept speed results, when you test the wired speed. What you then get on Wifi is your problem. They can't know, how your device performs. Too many devices out there.

Also .. since this is a SIRO connection, what was the installers speedtest when they installed it ?

    /M

Start a thread and post your levels, that's very unusual for VM.

I know its not speedtest.net but I broke the gigabit barrier on the Xbox detailed network statistics servers....

It was done on my Xbox One X and I did it a few times and got 1030, 1020 and 930. Make what you want of it, probably not as accurate as speedtest but it made me smile:P

    0.28 Mbps download

    1.21 Mbps upload

Virgin Media in Mullingar. A complete and utter joke at this stage.

Vodafone BB in north Wicklow tested from iphone on 5Ghz network using standard Vodafone router.

Wired best result is 62Mbps down and about 16.5 up

    Ping: 31 ms
    Down: 1.75 Mb/s
    Up: 0.12 Mb/s

    Sky in Galway

Says I get a download of 1.75 Mb/s but I barely get 300 KB/s on a good day. Utter joke

    Understand, you do not.

1.75Mbps is 218 kbps, 300Kbps is actually over 2Mbps. You're mixing small and big B's. Like saying my car is supposed to do 100kph but only does 62mph.

Being an unfortunate sky "BB" customer I'd say he meant small b.

I had the same speed in Galway with Sky or eir, the problem isn't Sky, the problem is your phone line is far away from the exchange, if you are with Sky for long, change to eir for 12 months, I did that and I got marginally better speed 1.75 to 2.5, they changed the modem. But I disconnected eir within a week as I applied online and they gave me a product that I didn't apply for.

When I was on DSL I was getting a rock solid 10 meg with Eir and any other provider with the exception of sky. It was dreadful, simple as that.

Hey all - just looking for some opinions.

My situation: we have Virgin BB, I believe the package is a basic 240MB. Never had any issues with it. The PC I use is one floor and the entire house away from the router beside the TV; they are connected via bog standard powerline adapters.

This morning, a guy cutting hedges outside managed to snip through the Virgin cable :( Internet, TV gone. I went out, spoke to the head guy who apologised and then said he could splice the cable back together, had done it many times before. Did so, internet and TV back within an hour.

Everything seems fine but I want to test my speeds to make sure I'm not left with 10% of the previous capacity or anything. This is what I'm getting:

    7389837499.png

Does it seem OK to those more educated than I in typical speeds, given the circumstances outlined above?

Is that a wired test? I wouldn't trust a hedge cutter as far as I'd throw him, give VM a call and get it fixed properly.

Wired, but via powerline adapters across most of the house, which I assume slows things down a bit.

Don't mind calling VM but also don't want to get into a 'pay VM to fix, then chase the management company contractors to refund me' situation unless I have to!

Yeah it's unlikely to have been fixed correctly so even if it's working now it may not be weatherproof and you may have issues in the future. Contact Virgin and explain. I don't believe you should be liable for any costs.

Happened to us before, three vans out within a few hours. No charge.

Depending on where the cable strike is it can take out a whole row of houses so they don't delay repairs.

I wonder could those results be very random. especially with IPTV on the new FTC network.

Went to a friends house the other day to reset the modem as the internet was slow. I did a speedtest wired and it was about 20mb lower than I had managed a year ago. Only then I realized they had two vodafone TV boxes running in living room and master bedroom.

Once I unplugged though fully the speeds came back up.

Ireland clearly has alot of work to catch up. A completed NBP could be a decade away from reality. Urban areas need to move away from copper as soon as possible.
